Black Boxes in Automobiles

Author: Adam Wellington

Anytime a plane crash enters the news, one of the first items investigators look for in the wreckage is the black box. Also known as the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder, these boxes, actually orange in color, are able to reveal important information preceding an accident. They can record information such as cockpit conversations and various details about the performance of components on the plane. This information is used to determine the cause of a crash by looking at the events that occurred before it.

Although these black boxes have been used in airplanes for a number of years, many people do not realize that they are being placed in automobiles as well. Their potential is obvious. Often times in automobile accidents, one or more of the driver's involved may have forgotten, either unintentionally or on purpose, what events took place. If two stories conflict, it is a difficult process to determine who is telling the truth. In addition to this, newer cars with anti-lock braking systems make accident reconstruction much more difficult since these cars do not leave skid marks as well as older ones. The presence of a black box in cars involved in a crash takes a lot of the guesswork out of this type of situation.

Since 1992, a number of major automobile manufacturers, including General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford have been using supplemental restraint systems (SRS) that incorporate air bags. One of the key components in these systems is the SDM, or sensing and diagnostic module. This component is used to constantly measure vehicle speed, throttle, brake status, and other data to determine if airbags must be deployed in the event of a crash.

The SDM is constantly monitoring the vehicle, but will only record if one of two types of event occurs, a near deployment event, or a deployment event. In both situations, the data recorded is the last 5 seconds before the accident, and the crash data itself.

A near deployment event is one that causes the SDM to sense that an accident occurred, but indicates that the conditions leading up to the crash were not severe enough to deploy the airbag. An example of this is if the vehicle did not experience sufficient deceleration prior to impact. In a deployment event, the airbag is actually triggered to deploy.

In both cases, an example of the data may look something like this: -3 50 1280 2 off

These numbers represent the number of seconds before the event, vehicle speed(mph), engine speed(rpm), percent throttle, and the status of the brakes. In this case, 3 seconds before the crash, the vehicle was still traveling at 50mph, and the brakes were not yet fully applied. This information will be supplied for the last 5 seconds preceding the crash. It may not seem like much data to go from, but knowing when or if the throttle was released and if the brakes were applied, as well as vehicle speed, can be very important in a legal situation when determining fault. In addition to this information, other data recorded at the time of impact includes the status of the seat belt, if the passenger airbag was turned on or off, and if the airbag warning light was on or off.

As made obvious by the description above, the use of the SDM in legal situations can be a valuable tool. The data recorded can give any personal injury practitioner a major advantage. Although accident reconstruction and physical evidence such as skid marks will still be used in investigations, the SDM is able to provide support and clarity to the conclusions reached by investigators in these situations.

2008 Pontiac Solstice

According to reviews, the 2008 Pontiac Solstice is, generally speaking, a great ride. This is taking into account the vehicle's sleek construction, good fuel economy and touch-foot acceleration. The only real concern was the lack of space for large passengers, driver arm movement to some respects, and grocery/luggage packing. Still, this sports car convertible wasn't intended for heavy carrying ('heavy' in terms of both weight and quantity) and, like most convertibles, is designed with two doors and a two-passenger capacity so that intimacy can be engaged and maintained. In other words, this is not a family vehicle. For its intended purpose, though, the Pontiac Solstice performs splendidly.

Fuel consumption is adequate, too. Of the two trims offered in the Solstice set, the regular convertible holds a fuel capacity of 2.4 liters, while the GXP convertible accommodates 2.0 liters. The assessment of 'good fuel economy' is relative, but here, the fact that the fuel tanks are not the largest available prevents high-gas spending, although filling will be necessary with fast or very long-distance traveling. At 177 horsepower (the regular convertible) and 260 horsepower, or 5300 rpm (GXP), an energy burst from these cars would not be unexpected, especially since they were intended for ongoing fast-paced performance. Five-speed manual and automatic transmissions, both with overdrive, are available to allow for variation in velocity as needed, but controlled.

Added bonuses to the 2008 Pontiac Solstice include elaborate and versatile entertainment center. A CD player, MP3 player and XM(B) satellite radio are among the integrated electronic capabilities the Solstice features.

This make is a carryover from 2007, which is fortunate. What other enhancements can make the Pontiac Solstice better than it is?

Honda Throttle Body Spacers

Author: Anthony Fontanelle

Generally speaking, the more air we can get into our lungs, the more we can sustain physical activity. Athletes who live at high altitudes reportedly perform better compared to their sea-level rivals because they have bigger lungs. Conversely, we can pass out when the air gets too thin; and we get tired easily if we smoke a pack or two a day. Essentially, the same is true for cars. The more air you can get into your cylinders, the more power you have to rip the road apart. However, the less air your engine can inhale, the lamer it gets!

Being a proud owner of a Honda, you will be glad to know that you can optimize the high performance of your vehicle even further with a Honda throttle body spacer. Easily installed between the stock throttle body and the intake manifold, the Honda throttle body spacer elongates the inlet so that incoming air can rotate freely and thus break up the air stream flowing to your cylinders. This lets the droplets of fuel to atomize more thoroughly in the engine, creating a very fine air/fuel mist that is easily compressed and completely burned in the combustion chamber. This increase in engine efficiency results in tremendous gains in horsepower, torque, and gas mileage! What can be better than burning more road faster for less fuel? More than this, installing a Honda throttle body spacer also makes your car more environment-friendly, since fuel burned completely produces less pollution.

Honda throttle body spacers are inexpensive investments that pay off huge in terms of increased fuel economy and absolute power-driving pleasure. You can also combine your Honda throttle body spacer with other performance-optimizing components such as the Honda header and the Honda cold air intake system to unleash the full potential of your Honda. Once you've installed your Honda upgrades, do breathe deep--you're in for one exhilarating ride!

The Baby Land Rover

The new Land Rover is slightly smaller than previous models, earning it the Baby Land Rover title. It's the kind of model that Land Rover really wants to push to the green market as well, as it will feature technology increasing efficiency and further boosting the green credentials that Land Rover wants to offer the market. These technologies will include the stop-start system and a hybrid drivetrain, both that are likely there to reduce CO2 emissions in this range of vehicle.

All that said, do suspect that people will be more interested in the exterior more than what runs this SUV because it will sport the LRX front aggressive look, which really gives away the influence of the build. Also, the car will be a little higher to give occupants more headroom and more luggage space. The model however will not be as tall as the Freelander it is based on, with shallow side windows and pillars on the side that make the roof look like it's suspended in air. A split tailgate tops off this beautiful future of car lease specials from Land Rover.

Inside, one will find a two-toned theme of the cabin, a dashboard that will more than likely look like the Freelanders current offering, and luxurious material ranging from leather and wood to carbon fiber and aluminum.

Engine options will also be quite numerous with the stop-start technology fitted into a 2.2 liter diesel and a 3.2 liter straight six gas version. This means lower fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions. There are rumors of the car using a more advanced type of hybrid system as well, with talk of the use of super capacitors instead of batteries that will store energy from regenerative braking. Motors hidden in the front wheels will allow a driver to get more speed as electricity flows to run them.

All in all, this is a Land Rover and only quality is expected from this seasoned manufacturer. No name has been given to the new baby Land Rover but there have been suggestions of sticking it with the Freelander brand. Still a little far off, the sports SUV is expected to hit showrooms in 2010. So it may be best to save all that money you have now to get one of these car lease specials from Land Rover in the future.

The Chevrolet Camaro

For most car and automotive enthusiasts and collectors, the 1980's were a "Chevy decade". Aside from the Chevrolet Corvette, which has long been upheld as a collector's item, the growing interest in Chevy's of all kinds was something of a new development at that time. For many years it had seemed, the dominant force in the "Old Car hobby" was the Ford Motor Company - chiefly in the Ford Models, T as well as the Ford Model "A", the V-8, the Continentals and the Lincoln-Zephyr. Then in a more recent trend the 1965-66 Mustangs gained large followings as well. But considering all the very desirable automotive collector items labeled "Chevrolet: and of course the more diminutive "Chevy" Ford by that time was under fire.

The exact time and year when Chevy become known for something other than just plain reliable transportation is not hard to pinpoint at all. In the year of 1955 "Ed Cole's" remarkable 2165 V-8 gasoline powered engine arrived on the scene, wrapped in one of the prettiest bodies of then what became to be known as the "post-war era". That potent engine also found its way, not surprisingly into the Chevrolet Corvette. The Corvette has obviously become renowned as a high performance vehicle ever since then.

For the most part there has not been a single Corvette auto car that has not been considered highly desirable and the 1955-57 standards Chevrolet has remained both a most desirable and red hot ticket item on the vintage automotive collector's market.

Led by these two benchmark Chevs, enthusiasm for other models blossomed in the 1970's. Early attention focused on the Corvair - unique at the time, among US automaker for a rear engined car, somewhat patterned on the success of the Volkswagen Beetle. Due to safety concerns, of an older version the Corvair went out of production in 1969. This was in spite of the fact that the Corvair had been updated and upgraded to address these safety concerns and improve handling. The Corvair retains a following to this very day in 2008.

In the late 1970's , car guys and car enthusiasts began turning to other Chevy products, notably the potent Super Sport Impalas and Malibu's of the mid 60's. The ever strong interest in vintage models from as far back as the 1930's and 1940's also continued. What did it all was one single word "Camaro".

It could be said that it was all "marketing". The Camaro was essentially Chevrolet's Marketing department's response to the success of the Ford Mustang. It is often said that copying is the biggest compliment and as well that a copy can "never be as good as the original." However in this case Chevy got it more than right.

The Camaro was conventional in the extreme: certainly as compared to the Corvette. The Camaro was certainly nowhere near as glamorous - compared to the Chevy Impala SS 409. Lastly with the exception of the Z-28 it was not exceptionally a fast car.

What then makes the Camaro - such a legend, such a sought after car and motor vehicle. The answer in a single word is "Personality". Every Camaro has had it: the RS with its sporty tires, the Z-28 with its competitive prowess; the 1970's second generation's coupes with their peerless stylings. This went all the way to the early 1980's models which kept alive the original "Ponycar" spirit of the 1960's.

All About Mufflers and Exhaust Systems

Author: trinity smith

Not all mufflers are created equal. Those who prefer to place aftermarket mufflers on their vehicles have proven this to be true. Naturally, Americans are looking for mufflers that can keep their cars quiet in order to lessen noise pollution and also not to hear the growl of their own engines.

There are many people who care less about noise pollution because in fact, they love cars with loud noise. There is a common misconception regarding this. Those who prefer quiet mufflers think that those who put loud mufflers on their cars would like to get attention. Those who have loud mufflers think that quiet mufflers are not cool.

We all know that if we choose the right muffler with the perfect exhaust system can give more horsepower. There are manufacturers who lessen the horsepower of a vehicle and we are just wondering why they would want to lower the horsepower. When looking for an aftermarket muffler, people worry about which one to choose.

There are lots of manufacturers for mufflers. To name a few, some of them are Monza, Greddy, Remus, Magnaflow and MimoUSA. From among the different manufacturers of mufflers, what are we looking for exactly? Honestly, all of these manufacturers are amazing and the decision lies on the person and the reason that he is searching for an aftermarket muffler.

Most people who modify their muffler or complete exhaust system do it for different reasons. Street racers are the ones who usually modify their mufflers for their racing needs. A street racer will have a different muffler than an ordinary enthusiast. If you have seen the movie "The Fast and the Furious", you will know what a street racer has in mind.

An enthusiast will not be satisfied with a new aftermarket muffler. They are after a whole new exhaust system which comes from the best industry such as Monza. This industry has designed a Pacesetter Performance Exhaust System that is designed to connect easily to the catalytic converter and perfectly designed to boost performance.

No matter which kind of aftermarket muffler or exhaust system you choose, your main concern would be the reason why you would like to replace the factory muffler. Whether you are after style sound or performance, you should keep in mind that these reasons should be your first concern.

2008 Pontiac G8 GT Review

The 2008 Pontiac G8 GT, a car, that since my eyes laid upon it's stealthy bodice, was the moment I just had to review it. Revolutionary looking automobile to say the least. But at the time this new model arrived at the local dealer, it was a test demo, only usable by management and not available for sale. That was too bad, because I've heard such great press about this new Dodge Charger/Chrysler 300 combatant. The reviewing morsels in my brainiac was at work, and here's the visual verdict...

The exterior was clean and elegant, a far cry from it's predecessor, the Grand Prix. Overall design cues was a carryover from Australia's Holden model, so alot of the the parts shared well and looked world class. Additionally, the headlights were stylish, contained up-to-date projector beam glass. And also featured great looking chrome/black diamond-back chambers and sturdy lexan composites to resist cracking, fading and yellowing. Fit and finish far exceeded what I originally thought was average, body panels were tight and squeek and rattle free. The wheels size up to 18" for the GT, and feature some fantastic performance Goodyear tires. Moreover, the trunk compartment was large enough to fit three bodies and a duffel bag.

Safety options were plentiful, dual frontal and side airbags were evident. Also thrown in are advanced onstar telematics with safe and sound, XM radio, and a very user friendly radio/CD/Ipod unit. Albeit, the red instrumentation is starting to get annoying in the Pontiac lineup. Long drives going well into the next morning will give bloodshot a whole new meaning with the sea of redness. I personally think they should do green, hmmm...yes green, much more pleasing to the eyes.

And now the complaint factory... Cheesy inside decor was something I never expected. Especially for such a coveted sedan, I was thrown by the futile use of hard black plastics. A trait that GM has suffered from in the past and can't seem to get over with. It was too stark and bleak even for the likes of me. Also, the seats were comfy but lacked the side bolstering for lateral support, it fit more like a oversized isotoner glove than a catchers mitt. And finally, I never got to drive and try out the new rear wheel drive platform!! But I did get a taste of the 6.0L V8 on the startup, it had a subdued rumble with so much performance potential. It looked inviting and eventually would be addicting, is there a local G8-anonymous close by??

My final take on this bad boy, the car was a joy that goes above and beyond to appeal to the large sedan masses. If the Impala SS or Chrysler 300 was ever on your choice list, immediately consider the Pontiac G8 as family. This particular critique GT model rang in at just under $30,000, and with other cars similarly priced, there is about $1,700-2,800 (GT) between invoice and MSRP. This is my number one choice out of the large performance sedan segment, highly recommended and a lot to love!! Nice job Pontiac! Now let's focus on a that new Firebird...hint, hint.

A 4x4 Jeep Wrangler

This week I was driving through whimsical countryside, with the leaves sweeping past my windscreen just as the road did the same and all was right with the world. Suddenly a shadow was cast over my beloved car and as I dared peak into my rear-view mirror I asked myself "What's that coming over the hill?" It was indeed a monster, in the form of a Chelsea tractor, piloted by none other than a life sized Barbie that was just a plastic. As she applied her makeup - presumably for Ken, the thought of driving seemed like an added bonus, the hand stitched hide of what appeared to be a white tiger lavished over the empty child seat next her. And then she was gone.

This got me thinking. Barbie is your typical 4x4/SUV driver aka the school run mum that sees driving over a pebble as going off road. Well I hear you 4x4ers cry: "we're not all like that". I do believe there are those of you out of there that do need off-roaders and there is a simple way to show yourselves - buy a Jeep Wrangler. Oh yes, by purchasing Chrysler/Jeep's Wrangler, you say to every other wannabe off-roader that you are the real deal and the school run is a thing of the past - unless the school is atop Everest.

Heritage is a key component to standing out from the crowd and the Jeep Wrangler has it in spades. So what heritage then - motor racing? No. Italian flair? No. Helping protect the world from evil? Um, yes actually.

Produced by Chrysler and marketed under the 'Jeep' moniker, the Wrangler is derived from the CJ (Civilian Jeep) the go anywhere, do anything utility vehicle made famous throughout World War II, as it helped allied troops immeasurably against German invaders. Launched in 1987, the first generation Wrangler featured four wheels (five if you count the steering wheel), a drop top, large ground clearance and a roll cage. I'm really not skimping on detail, that was about it. Put simply, the reason why the civilian production version was as-near-as-makes-no-difference the same as the army's' version was because, like the military version it was designed to go off road and off road alone.

Perhaps in a misguided move, Jeep launched the Schwarzenegger sounding 'Renegade' derivative of the Wrangler in 1991. However the company miss-read it's key demographic and offered it's hardcore, off road customer base 'luxuries' such as floor mats (front only), a locking glove box, engine lights and cup holders. If these features didn't alienate their customers with uselessness, the extra $7,000 (£3,500) price tag did. The Renegade sold poorly and was decommissioned in 1994, a year before the standard model gave way to it's younger brother - the generation two Wrangler.

A key change was Jeep making the new Wrangler available in right hand drive as the company sought to expand its global market. Style wise, it paid heavy homage to its World War II compatriot, with circular headlights a welcome return from the much maligned square monstrosities on the Mk1. The new Jeep also featured a relatively civilised coil spring suspension - if civilised is Mike Tyson biting your ear off. Admittedly, the Wrangler was more manageable on the tarmac but wisely, Jeep didn't compromise it's off road performance. A few additions such as a radio and the updating of the interior design were also welcomed, without softening the Jeep too much.

On the back of the successful Mk2, the current generation three offering was launched merely months ago and has been criticised for being too large compared to the military hero it is derived from. Personally I think the Wrangler has grown up and is now a true contender to the likes of Range Rover, the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne. To help with this, anti-lock brakes make an appearance 20 years too late, traction control appears seven years too late and Jeep are about on par with introducing Satellite Navigation. Ok, so the Wrangler may not be as good to drive on the road as an X5 or Cayenne, but its ultra reliable (the US postal service uses them extensively) and it'll still do the ugly off-road stuff with a grin on its face, whilst the Porsche struggles with a broken nail. Plus it's about $10000000000000000 (£100000000) cheaper.

The latest edition is also available for military use - complete with a snorkel so the engine can breathe underwater (seriously). Jeep then have not watered down the Wrangler but with a slight measure of creature comforts it's a serious contender for the best 4x4 you can buy.

I've seen the latest Barbie motoring range - Ken's cramped and his hair is blown around. She's been beaten and she's back in the sports car.

2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Driving up onto Chevrolet's lot left me with a lot to wonder. What will I be expecting? I've never bought Chevrolet, or for that matter anything domestic in over ten years. The lack of quality product had diverted my interests into our local Japanese economy. But in any event, I was ready and prepared for the worst...or maybe not.

My first impression on the new Chevrolet Malibu was of complete surprise. It's a handsome and striking automobile from a hundred yards away, but I'm still skeptical until I can really get up close and inspect it's minute details. It's because of this, I buy an automobile for functionality, style (looking different from the crowd), and reliability. I've seen so many tv pitch ads, and even listened to a wide array of radio sponsorships from local area businesses praising America's comeback kid. So okay great, the car even looks wonderful from up close. So how does this automobile perform?

I'm not one to judge so closely. From the front of the car, there's fabulous details. Fantastic fit and finish all around, no unsightly body panel gaps that plagued the previous two generations before. I looked at the LT2 model. Nice chrome appliqués in just the right places, not overdone or overstated. Pull out door handle feel solid and do a lot in easing ergonomics. In addition, the deleted, unsightly window trim disappeared, evoked clean and aerodynamic design. The taillights were a change, very retro but at the same time elegant. Chevrolet nabbed a couple design cues from it's reverberated 2008 Cadillac CTS Sedan. I just pointed out to the sales consultant, did Toyota help design and engineer this?? With a grin ear to ear, he proclaimed an emphatic no!!

So now, I realize looks are only 50% of the total experience. I still had to be sold on how well it performs out on the freeway. Commuting fifty miles round trip was the norm, so comfort and passing power were my big high points. I get behind the wheel, adjust everything necessary to help assist my mental ownership and gazed about the cabin trying to figure out all the gadgetry. The one thing that did pop out, was the further attention to details on the materials of the dash panel and seating surfaces, very comfortable and not too harsh. What would happen next left me speechless, I cranked the ignition, no sound whatsoever. A definite high point in my book, very quiet, no engine noise whatsoever from inside. I geared it into drive and accelerated, still mute without the high hum of a four banger Ford Festiva...unbelievable!

So in conclusion, the car was meticulous in detail, I hounded the four cylinder up and down narrow canyons in Napa Valley, not a peep. Needless to say, my expectations were exceeded ten fold. Surprise would not have been the word to describe the test drive. We have all heard the great praise the Malibu has had, and I can ultimately attest to the grand amount of advertising and rave reviews, that it has to seen to be believed. As you have read this review, I have gone through the song and dance. A proud new owner of a revitalized icon from yesteryear, I'm still in elation.

See for yourself and do the research before you say yes, check the same sites I did before taking the plunge:

The Porsche 911

Porsche, a name synonymous with the elite, is without a doubt, known to all auto enthusiasts, and even the not so enthusiastic ones. The brainchild of one Ferdinand Porsche, it has been revolutionary since its birth. He had a desire that every German should be able to own a car, and so was born the VW38 sedan, or the Beetle, as we commonly know it. Even though the project that launched the VW38 turned out to be a failure, the car was anything but that.

Using parts from the Beetle, Porsche and his son developed a sports car, the 365 Roadster, which was yet another hit, especially among the upper class; and this is the car that gave way to the living legend, the Porsche 911. It was launched in 1963 as the 901, but the name had to be changed since Peugeot had a copyright on all three digit car model numbers with a zero in the middle. The body of the car was designed by Mr. Porsche himself, and is a perfect example of 'timeless beauty'. It was a beauty outside, but a beast inside. With a 2.0 litre, six-cylinder engine (air cooled and rear placed) it went from 0 to 60 mph in 8.3 seconds - in the year 1964! It was an instant Hit!

Along with the masses, the 911 and its variants achieved tremendous success in the field of racing as well, but thats another story. The 1965 model was a powerful little thing with all the (then) latest technology under the hood. It had a five-speed transmission, when most sports cars offered four-speed; it had a sophisticated semitrailing arm and torsion-bar-sprung independent rear suspension, when most cars used solid rear axles suspended on leaf springs; a rack-and-pinion steering arrangement, when steering systems at the time used a recirculating ball; and it had four disc brakes and rode on radials. Oh yes, it was different!

From then onwards, the 911 has undergone numerous changes (it is now smoother, roomier, and of course, faster and more powerful) but essentially remains unchanged. The owners have had their fare share of attempts at changing their hottest-selling model, but failed. It has become for Porsche, what the Beetle was for Volkswagen. Present day, it is available in 15 models, ranging from $73,500 to $191,700 (a whopping 530 hp this one). Four decades and nine generations down the line, the Porsche 911 is still a symbol of class, and a class apart at that. All thanks to the continuous facelifts and performance boosters courtesy the engineers at Porsche, the 911 has become what all car makers dream of.. Immortal.

Volkswagen Beetle An American Favorite

If you have been out of your house in the past few years at all, chances are that you have laid eyes on at least one of the new Volkswagen Beetle cars. The new Volkswagen Beetle is a revolutionary spin on an old favorite, and although it has been an American favorite for more than half a decade, it must be attributed to a foreign entity-Germany, to be exact.

It is said that the Volkswagen Beetle was invented by Adolf Hitler; while this has been a rumor going around for quite some time; it is not necessarily the truth. While Adolf Hitler did have some input in the implementation of the Volkswagen beetle, it is not something that can necessarily be attributed directly to him.

As many cars have changed their general design and developed low fenders, sleek lines, and super high powered engines, that is not the case with the Volkswagen Beetle. As time has gone on, the Beetle hasn't gotten much bigger than the original 1930s version of this popular favorite. It has remained a small, compact vehicle and fuel efficiency is as much a part of the core of its being as its rounded design-both of which have remained intact throughout the slight evolutionary process that it has gone through.

People love the Volkswagen Beetle for a variety of reasons. For one, it is an adorable car-it screams the lifestyle of beautiful ladies and warm summer days, but it is also fuel efficient-something that is extremely important in today's society of ever increasing gas prices and stagnant wages.

The rounded lines and eye-like headlights are the signature of this classic Volkswagen. There are many Volkswagen vehicles out there, but few of them are so ingrained in popular culture like the Beetle. Remember Herbie the Love Bug? He was a Volkswagen Beetle, and was one of the reasons why the car became such a part of the popular American culture!

If you are interested in having a Volkswagen Beetle of your own, there are a few ways you can go about it. You can purchase one of the New Beetles that Volkswagen has recently released, or you can opt to get one of the older ones. They are great for restoration projects, and can also be found restored although that tends to take a little more time than many people have.

Sure, Volkswagen may not be an American-made car, but it is an American favorite. People have been falling in love with these adorable Bugs since before World War II and it is looking like things will continue that way. What are you waiting for? Grab a local newspaper or hop online and check out the numerous Volkswagen Beetles, restored and ready to be restored, that are waiting for you to claim ownership. With Volkswagen, it isn't too difficult to come up on a great deal. Start looking for your new (or old) Volkswagen Beetle today.

2008 Chevrolet Silverado Brand Exhaust Accessories and Mufflers

This blog is more information to help the consumer pick and choose the best exhaust for their later model Chevrolet Silverdo. I will mainly focus on the model ranges from 1999-2008(New Body). There are so many new brands and applications to help make that new pickup rumble, there's nothing like a marquee street presence. I will also go over what you will need to know to comply with your local emissions laws.

The primary function of your exhaust system is to dispel gases being produced by your engine. The stock factory setup is always unappealing to look at, how they sound, and how restrictive they can be to the performance of your ride. A more free flowing system can enhance horsepower and torque. And make the change good enough that you wouldn't be obligated to squander thousands of dollars for supercharges and modified engines that may or may not pass local emissions.

There are a couple variables when trying to choose the right system. Is there a price budget you had in mind? Do you want something with deep sound, or maybe a small subdued rumble will suffice? And lastly, would you want dual pipes or maybe a swept side catback will do? Everything just questioned is more or less preference, there are numerous applications that help out.

Dealer installed or aftermarket? Sure you pay more for the dealer installed exhaust, but usually these systems are backed by the dealer or the company that installed them. Plus you wouldn't have to hassle with doing it yourself and taking time out of your busy schedule to get it done. With aftermarket, you can get any customized application you prefer and use any brand that you want, this would be my choice. A huge plus is the aftermarket installation is also worlds cheaper.

What brands are there in the market? There are a lot of manufacturers that have quality systems for various budgets. Want great quality? Borla, Corsa, and Bassani might be the choice for you. Want something affordable? Then maybe Flowmaster, Edelbrock, or Hedman is the one for you. The one I can say is, all of these companies have an established reputation for quality and reliability. The website below will most certainly provide closer specs and available applications for your Chevrolet Silverado.

Ferrari or Aston Martin?

Author: Frank Collins

Ferrari will display the new F430 GT California at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show made to compete against the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. A feature is the folding roof in the 2+2 convertible coupe.

Although Ferrari is known for its timeless designs, the engines get equal press attention. The F430 GT will feature the same motor as the F430 and an updated chassis to accommodate the roof and rigidity when the roof is down. Pininfarina will design this Ferrari and features the most up to date release of the F430 aluminum spaceframe.

The F430 GT California will sport underneath the hood a 4.3 liter V8 direct injection engine with an output of 450 hp. It will feature the same F1 "Superfast" sequential-shift gearbox as in the F430 Scuderia. As an option, the manual gearbox will be offered upon request.

The F1 Superfast will reduce gear change times to just 60 milliseconds. Additional features include the same Scuderia traction control which will combine the E-Diff electronic differential and the F1-Trac traction and stability control into a integrated system. Experts see the F430 GT California to do the 0 to 60 mph jaunt in less than four seconds and have a top speed of 195 mph. All this for just around $200,000 USD.

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster is considered a pure sports car, a car that heightens the senses and provides a dynamically thrilling driving experience quoted by an Aston martin spokesman.

The Roadster features the proprietary Aston Martin bonded aluminum VH (Vertical Horizontal) architecture backbone to all modern Aston Martins. Combining to this structure, are materials such as lightweight alloys, magnesium and advanced composites used for the body, which contribute even more to the sports car's low weight and high rigidity.

The Vantage Roadster performance compared to the F430 GT still delivers exceptional performance and engineering to ensure that the Roadster is on par with the accomplishments of its Coupe sibling, by doing 0-100km/h (62mph) in 5.0 seconds (0-60mph in 4.9 seconds) and a potential maximum speed of 280km/h (175mph).

The V8 Vantage is so sporty that it is being seen in many Hollywood movies recently and most famously used in the latest James Bond film. Aston Martin does bring performance, style and a true sports car driving experience. With either car, how could you go wrong? The Ferrari and Aston Martin both feature exceptional performance, engineering and a style that seems timeless. However, don't be surprised in the future when they inevitably raise the bar again.

1968 Red Shelby Mustang

In 1968 Ford decided to give the Shelby Mustang a new look and a distinctive feel to help set them apart from existing vehicles. The 1968 red shelby mustang was created with a heavier build than the previous models and Mustangs in general. The new model of Shelby was created wider grills and a unique convertible top. Now the 1968 red shelby mustang had a roll over convertible top that was designed to enhance safety. In addition to consumer safety the 1968 red shelby mustang was also designed with environmental safety in mind. In order to stay within acceptable emission limits the new Shelby used the new 302 V-8 engine.

By the middle of 1969 Ford decided to make an additional option available for the 1968 red shelby mustang. After deciding to make the Cobra Jet engine available for the Mustang Ford decided that they should also make the option available for the Shelby. The original 428 block that was developed and placed into the Cobra GT500 was supplanted by the Cobra Jet engine unit. The Cobra Jet engine boasted a low riser, completely revised 427 cylinder heads that had large ports that were rectangular in shape. The Cobra Jet unit also had a special intake manifold that was designed with a duel plane and it also had a large, four barreled, Holley carburetor. With this option installed the 1968 red shelby mustang was referred to as the Cobra GT-500KR and was nick named the 'King of the Road'

With the special addition the 1968 red shelby mustang was advertised as having a 335 hp @ 5600 rpm rating to satisfy certain insurance issues and concerns. In reality the 1968 red shelby mustang with the Cobra Jet engine really had nearly 400 hp @ 5600 rpm. The huge car was able to reach truly astonishing speeds that easily exceeded 210 kph. While this was enough to leave any racing enthusiast breathless there was more to come.

The new engine made it possible for the 1968 red shelby mustang to go from 0 miles per hour to 100 miles per hour in just fourteen seconds. Most modern cars can only reach a fraction of that speed in that time frame and cars pre dating the 1968 red shelby mustang took at least 17 seconds to perform the same feet. For many the 1968 red shelby mustang was a race car that could be driven on the highway.

While the prices of many competing cars were being raised because of inflation the 1968 red shelby mustang did not experience a large price change. Since the price of the 1968 red shelby mustang was remaining stable the sales volume increased but eventually bottomed out. As those who wanted the new Mustang purchased them sales eventual slowed then stopped. The 1968 red shelby mustang was different than its predecessors. Instead of being a car designed for racing enthusiast the newer Shelby's were being designed with average consumers in mind. Ford was concentrating on developing cars that were comfortable to driving and suited to casual road trips.

Exploring the Ins and Outs of Gasoline

As the prices of gas continues to rise in the 21st century, motorists are yearning for the days when the substance that powered their cars cost less than $1 or even closer to $2. The demand for this influential resource has been outweighing the supply long before war broke out in the Middle East. The constant consumption of regular, leaded, unleaded, and now diesel fuel has placed a huge strain on reserves, which has caused prices to reach new heights.

The elevated cost of gasoline has greatly impacted the United States, as well as the rest of the world. The current energy crisis has forced scientists to seek out innovative ways of supplying energy and has encouraged consumers to find other methods of preserving fuel, such as riding a bicycle to work or purchasing electric cars.

In the future, the use of gas alternatives may gain more attention, especially since the following methods are less damaging to the environment: biodiesel, biobutanol, hydrogen fuel, ethanol, and bioethanol.

Taking a Brief Look at Gas Prices

In September 2003, the price of standard crude oil was less than $25 per barrel and with the help of inflation adjustments - it remained below the mark since the middle of the 1980s. However, a chain of events over the past couple of years has caused the price to increase to more than $60 in August 2005 and exceed the $75-mark by the summer of 2006. In October 2007, a barrel of crude oil was $92. The start of 2008 only heightened the continued rise in prices, establishing several record highs, including an inflation-adjusted all-time peak of $103.05 per barrel in February 2008.

Different Kinds of Gasoline

A mixture of liquid hydrocarbons and crude oil undergo a distillation process in order to generate gasoline. Gas was invented during the late 1850s after crude oil was discovered and researchers were able to fine ways on how to use this material. Early types of gasoline were created as a byproduct of the process that made kerosene fuel for oil lamps. Since the internal combustion engine had yet to become a reality - the majority of early gasoline was tossed away because no one had a use for the substance.

Today, the United States offers a wide-range of gasoline types. Finished motor gasoline consists of a complicated mixture of volatile hydrocarbons and other additives that help power spark-ignition engines. Reformulated gas mostly uses methyl tertiary-butyle ether as an oxygenate with three different kinds. For example, the exclusive oxygenated reformulated gasoline is typical only during the wintertime throughout the New York City region where heavy carbon monoxide pollution is found.

Gasohol is often a combination of 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline mixture. Ethanol is a liquid that actually comes from the fermentation of some sugars located in agricultural crops or wood. However, the most widely available type is conventional gasoline, which has been designed to evaporate at a slower pace in hot temperatures, which creates less smog.

Overall, each type of gas (whether conventional, oxygenated, or reformulated) is available within three different grades: regular, midgrade, and premium. As a rule of thumb, premium gas offers an octane rating greater than 90, which contributes to its higher price per gallon.

The Lowdown on Gas Stations

With exorbitant prices, gas stations not only struggle to make a profit but to also find ways on how to entice consumers into purchasing their gas. Depending on the location of a gas station and company trend - a range of prices sees states like New Jersey and Missouri offering the lowest costs with California pushing the limits as of March 2008.

A couple of popular gas companies and stations within the United States and Canada include:

Chevron

Founded in 1879 in Pico Canyon, California - Chevron would grow to become the fifth largest global energy company - playing a major role in the oil and gas industry. Making great strides in exploration and production, Chevron is also responsible for Texaco found in Europe, United States and Latin America.

ExxonMobil

With a merger in 1999 that saw the combined power of three major companies - ExxonMobil is considered the world's largest company by revenue. The company also supports Exxon in the United States; Esse/Imperial Oil in Canada; and Mobil in the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand.

Husky

Founded in 1938 as Husky Refining, the company focuses on petroleum and gas. Employing close to 4,000 people - Husky is known as one of Canada's biggest energy companies - which supplies Husky and Mohawk-brand gas.

Petro Canada

Established in 1975 in Ottawa, Ontario, Petro Canada is known as the second-largest company associated with various gas operations. Petro gas stations also offers a loyalty program called Petro Points, where consumers receive credits for fuel, car repair and store purchases.

Conoco Phillips

A merger in 2002 saw Conoco and Phillips join forces to become one of the six "supermajor" oil companies in the world. The company is responsible for heading Conoco in the southeastern and central region of the United States, Phillips 66, and other international ventures.

Center Caps Are Important For Your Mustangs Wheels

If you have already invested a large amount of money into a new set of custom wheels you want to make sure that you finish it off right with a nice set of center caps. Car enthusiasts look at every detail of a car. Do not spend a lot of money on your wheels and then not put a great set of center caps on your car just because you do not have the money or worse, you think nobody will notice. By doing that you should never even of purchased the wheels.

Center caps can be as unique or plain as you want. If you are doing restoration on a car then the stock caps are the way to go. The majority of car collectors want their cars to be as original as possible. If you do not care about that and its all about customizing then do the proper research on your car. Every Mustang will have different dimensions for its wheels and upgrading them will be easy. Many times you will see that the wheels you buy will come with a nice set of caps already.

Over the past fifteen years Ford has introduced a variety of very nice looking caps for the Mustang. The majority of them have the blue Ford logo and can be interchanged with a number of wheel sizes. The coolest center caps where put on the Mustang Cobra and Cobra R models. The snake head is truly a one of a kind logo. It does not matter what type of wheel you plan on putting them on they will make your wheel setup that much nicer. Ford produced a lot of these but you can also pick them up from aftermarket manufacturers. They come in black, red, blue, and silver colors.

If you like the classic Mustang look then I would suggest you look at the original Mustang design. It involves the MUstang in the background with the red, white, and blue horizontal stripes running through the center of the horse. Many of these will have the horse in a silver or white color with a black background.

The last avenue you can take would be to put spinner center caps on your wheels. Depending on how you want your car to look these look great on a wire wheel. Not that many Mustang owners put spinners on their cars because it does not have a performance look. If making you Mustang look different is the goal then you should pick up a set of those.

Mustang owners looking for a nice set of center caps or Bullitt Mustang Wheels should go to CustomMustangWheels.com.

The Future Of Hydrogen Powered Cars Is Here Today

It was an honor to attend a talk by Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson when he spoke at the Hammer Cultural Center on the west side of Los Angeles last night. Colonel Wilkerson is is the highest ranking official who defected from the Bush Administration. Which, he confessed, he considers to be a personal embarrassment and that he has no hesitancy in saying that he will have trouble living with as long as he lives.

More precisely that the man saw a lot of things that were not acceptable but stayed in the Administration for five years. The Colonel said so much that was true last night. But it wasn't all true. He said that he believes that the switch over to more sensible fuel solutions would take at least seventy five years. He spoke of the need to change the whole industry, its infrastructure and on like that... and that we didn't have the technology yet.

So, here you have a man with as much honesty and integrity and love of country as Colonel Wilkerson demonstrated who is yet on stage talking about these false statements about the future of alternative energy then perhaps it means that many people in power don't know. Which means that the oil companies and other such "experts" have done their job in hiding the truth from the public. In reality it isn't going to take seventy five years nor even one year. Because we already have it now.

I suppose the infrastructure will just have to get used to having to maintaining pace with the people. Because there are now many collaborative members of Water4Gas scattered around the globe who are helping in their own unique ways for the common purpose of pushing this fantastic technology up as high as we can take it as rapidly as humanly possible. As of right now at a standard where pretty much anybody with technical skill or little can assemble and install the system and roll their car out for a drive with a gas/hydrogen hybrid car.

So there are those who are actively working on creating the smoke screen and there are those who may have gotten blinded by it and some such are out there forwarding false information. You don't have to join them! But you don't have to be either of those. You are welcome to join us, instead!

The Science of Selling Cars

When it comes to upgrading or offloading your car, there are several routes you can take. One of the most popular methods is to upgrade your car through a part exchange. This means that you give a car dealer your old car in exchange for a reduction in price on your new one. This is a quick and easy way of upgrading your vehicle, though you won't get as much as you would if you were to sell it though other means.

The other limitation of this method is that it only works if you want to buy another car from the dealer. There may not be another car that you want, or that's in your price range; perhaps you have decided to go car-free or you're moving abroad and no longer need a car?

If, for whatever reason, part exchange is not suitable, many people try and sell their car onto their friends or work mates. This can be good for a quick sale, and it also costs little or nothing to advertise - just a quick email or a few phone calls. However, selling to people you know doesn't always have a happy ending. The problems can come when something goes wrong with the car. The buyer may feel that you are still responsible for it in some way, and may expect a refund or some sort of compensation. This can lead to a very awkward situation and friendships have been severed over less, so the best advice, if you're going to take this route, is to make out a clear agreement in writing that you both sign concerning any warranty period, refunds and repair costs. This way, you both know exactly what the agreement is at the time of the sale, so there a much less chance of any misunderstandings later on.

If no-one you know is interested in buying your car, or you'd rather avoid any potential awkwardness, then classifieds are an ideal place to advertise cars for sale. Local papers, and publications such as Auto Trader have always been popular places to buy and sell vehicles and nowadays online classifieds are also a very popular place to advertise.

The advantage of using the web to sell a car is that information can be uploaded instantly, and it is also much easier for buyers to search for vehicle via price, make, or model. The added bonus is that anyone with internet access can view such ads so an online advert tends to reach a wider audience. By selling privately, you're also likely to be able to get a higher price than through part exchange, or selling to a used car dealer.

But, whichever route you take to sell you car, be sure to hold out for the best possible deal; but at the same time, be realistic about what your car is worth.

Car Design That Highlights Innovations

Car is an absolute necessity in today's fast moving life where life cannot even be thought of without this mode of road transportation. There are umpteen ranges of cars available from small to big that suits everybody's budget, comfort and style. The car industry is so lucrative that it is ever expanding bringing new designs, colors and features in picture to attract new customers and in this rat race competition the key area which is focused maximum is designing. In today's era designing is a synonym to innovation and creativity which states a simple fact that if you want to survive then create designs that appeal everyone. Simply look at the fact how Alexander bell's invention of phone has innovated to mobile phones over the years.

The same thing applies to the cars as we can compare the technologies and designing we have today with those we had a decade ago, we find a lot more difference because designing is all about making the present product a little better and advance to keep the loyal customers intact and add new customers to the kitty. Car designing is highlighting innovations in the areas of technology, science, design and illustrate the impressive changes that have been witnessed in the race of development. Vehicle manufacturers have used these components so wisely and fragmented this car industry into various sections of car divisions.

Sports car: when talking about this industry, there is something special about sports car that cannot remain unnoticed. There is quite much more to the sleekness and aerodynamics that makes it standout in the rest of categories. These cars possess attitude which screams that complete exhilaration can be attained when driving them. There is wild side of every pleasure, which need to be fulfilled to get the fullest satisfaction. These high performer cars have the capacity to match this "wildness" that many people innately appear to have.

Hybrid cars: these cars have become the talk of car lovers as they are sci-fi tech cars which have great features like gas saving ability and are environmental friendly. These have unique hybrid technologies like better efficiency of engines, aerodynamically designed and are environmentally very friendly as they oroduce less pollution than other conventional cars. There is an added advantage of purchasing these cars that the federal government and other local governments are offering tax advantage to the buyers to promote their sale.

Electric cars: these cars are bagging market share as they promise better comfort and efficiency. As the name suggests these are cars run through the use of electricity instead of using gasoline as a primary source of fuel. A large battery made up of lithium ion is fit inside the car that can be traveled to more than fifty miles in a single charge. The other benefit that they seem to give is that electricity is still cheaper as compared to gasoline as there are many ways of producing electricity like nuclear power plants, wind energy and many more which is turning the eyeballs to these variety of hi tech cars.

Love Your Honda?

Author: Anthony Fontanelle

Many car accidents happen due to the driver's inability to clearly see the road ahead. Snowstorms, heavy rains, and insufficient street lighting can make it very difficult for them to see beyond a few meters. This is why your Honda car has a wide array of features that provide illumination as well as increase its conspicuity. One of these important features is the Honda park light.

Often sporting either a bright orange or red color, a Honda park light does more than what its name suggests. More than a tool that allows you to estimate the distance between your car and the wall you are backing up to, a Honda park light alerts motorists behind you of your presence.

For example, whenever you press on the brakes, each Honda park light turns bright to inform others that you are slowing down or coming to a complete stop. Moreover, it complements the brightness of your Honda tail lights and blinks simultaneously with these so that if you are stranded or going in reverse, you can be spotted immediately. Also, Honda park lights can usually be set to blink in sync with your Honda turning signal to indicate your intention to turn or change lanes. All in all, Honda park lights make your position and movement on the street more visible, thereby increasing over-all road safety.

Road safety is so important that laws are enacted to punish motorists who fail to replace broken park light lenses or burnt-out park light bulbs. Did you know that unless your car is only for show, you can choose park light colors that are only allowed by the law? Such rules and regulations are there for your protection as well as those of other motorists. Therefore, it is imperative that you replace broken park lights with new Honda park lights without delay.

Car Driving As An Everyday Sport

Are you a sports driver? Do you take pride in your car and how you masterfully maneuver it? There are many aspects of driving that we take for granted and become casual and careless about. It's also worth noting how much time we spend driving and that it doesn't have to be wasted time or boring.

You have probably experienced a thoughtless driver's actions. You've surely seen how some people are oblivious in their own world of cell phone calls, eating, talking, grooming, fixated on everything but courtesy and awareness, and endangering themselves and others. It's worth doing a mental refresher of all the skills required to operate a car safely and economically. You can even turn commuting into a sport.

Distractions to driving are everywhere but a little concentration can keep you safe and protected from the dangers of being on the road and make it a fun pastime.

Some people consider themselves great drivers but over-confidence can be a dangerous thing. Without examination, routine can become bad habits. If you don't feel you are a good driver then you could consider taking a refresher driving class or an advanced driving course to reinforce and learn new good habits.

Most good drivers are continuously checking their surroundings. They know the traffic flow ahead and behind. It's easy enough to keep an eye on the road ahead but how often do you check your rear view mirror? Sensible drivers keep in mind where the vehicles close to them are. In the event of a sudden change in conditions they can automatically react appropriately because they have a mental image of the situation already.

Anticipation is a learned skill but it's easy to practice it every time you drive. One technique is to recite a running commentary, either in your mind or out loud, of the things you see while driving. These would be snapshots of what other vehicles are doing and scenarios that could affect your next driving decision or potential avoidance maneuver. A smart driver always has an escape option in mind.

Consider such commentary as where a nearby vehicle might be heading, your current speed, how much stopping distance you need (do you use the 2 second rule?), how close is the car behind, what those pedestrians or cyclists are going to do next, if that truck is loaded securely, is that driver approaching fast from another lane etc.

When you become more aware of your surroundings and form protective plans you become more tuned in to the pleasure and comfort of driving safely. It's not just a defensive role but also a challenge that can make your otherwise tedious driving more precise and fun; like sport driving everyday.

Muscle Car Fans Challenge

Author: Frank Collins

Muscle car fans can now rejoice after two months of spy shots on the web and concept versions, the final version of the Challenger is here. The famed car will make its debut in coming months to your local auto show. The Challenger is scheduled for public showing at the Chicago motor show. The Challenger is Chrysler's fourth car on Chrysler's tab, and the successor to the 300C and the Magnum. The first production Challenger brought in $400,000 for charity.

The new muscle car comes with nothing less beneath the hood than a 6.1L Hemi V8. This engine will give ample juice to keep you flush in your seats. Although, the six-speed automatic transmission is smoother from technological advances, the aura and feel of a muscle car is still vibrantly present during acceleration. A strong set of four-piston Brembo brakes bring the showstopper to a rest. These brakes are also standard issue for LX-platform SRT8 fare. Out of respect for the original Challenger, the chrome cross mesh grille is replaced by a series of thin, flat-black squares.

The Challenger has the unique distinction of being the first coupe to be built on the LX platform. One of the leading car magazines for reviews "Automotive News" reports the Challenger is four inches shorter (at 116in) than its corporate counterparts and has a slightly lighter weight. One would begin to reasons then that this fact should make the 425hp, 420 lb-ft Hemi seem a bit livelier, and will contribute to better handling and breaking distances. Fuel consumption should also be slightly more palatable than other SRT8s, but seriously folks, you're not buying this car for its green image. If you can't wait for these to arrive at your local dealer's showroom, grab some tickets for the next auto show, book a room and gaze in awe with other car enthusiasts.

This article will bring together 10 fast road cars that YOU could own... It isn't a definitive list, but a group of fast cars from all kinds of different classes that won't require a lottery win. This is only a handful of similar cars so don't forget to shop around.

5) Ford Mustang - Believe it or not the mustang first arrived in 1964, making a cameo appearance in Goldfinger. More recently in 1994 Ford began production of the forth generation, with the Mustang GT available as a coupe model V8 outputting 260 horses and producing a 0-60 time somewhere around 6 seconds. Of course if you're not worried about pricing issues than naturally you'll want the limited edition Cobra GT, or even the Ford Mustang Shelby GT... She's a beast of a muscle car.

4) Golf Gti (MKIII) The MK3 arrived in 1991, it had a larger chassis than previous versions (now weighs over a ton) and this time was built to last, but boy aint it fun?! You can grab one of these cars with a 2.0L 16v engine that will punch out 115BHP. This will do 0-60 in 8.7 seconds and a top speed of 124mph, not too shabby when you can get a high spec version for less than £2000 now a days...

3) Honda civic type R Although the new Civic is more weighty than its predecessor, its still very quick for its class, it has a 0-62mph time of 6.6 seconds. The top speed hasn't changed and remains at 146MPH. The suspension set-up has also been changed, Honda claim it's now more responsive and rigid. You can pick one up for around £9000, don't forget though this is new and you're paying for quality here. Read the full review of the Honda Civic.

2) Nissan 300zx The Nissan 300zx is no longer a production car, but you can easily pick up a good used model for under £10,000 and even reaching as low as £5000. Performance wise the twin turbo packs 276BHP, which gets you from 0 to 60 in 6 seconds and with a top speed of around 155mph - it will please. Read the full review of the Nissan 300zx.

1) Daihatsu Charade Gtti This truly is a little gem. It's the fastest and most powerful 1litre production car EVER. It produces 100BHP and goes from 0-60 in an unbelievable 7.5 seconds. This thing will keep up with your 318i, your Golf Gti and your Escort RS turbo. Granted, its not a family car - it's a pocket rocket. You can pick one up in a good condition for under £2000 and don't worry its very economical too in comparison to your standard sports car! Impress your mates and buy this...

Ferrari Import Classics

Author: Arthur T. Fellon

Intrigued with the notion of a miniature bolide bearing his name, Enzi Ferrari proudly unveiled a diminutive engine late in 1959. The 854, which stood for shorthand the four cylinder 850cc engine. You know this type and line of car well. A replica of the Ferrari 250 line was used in the 1986 film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" In the movie, the replica Ferrari 250 was the characters Cameron Frye's dad's car. Interestingly enough the automotive company that produced the replica 250 sports car , was later sued by Ferrari for the unlawful use of the Ferraro logos . Later forcing the replica company to shut down to avoid further legal action and potential financial judgments against itself So much for copying the rich and famous.

The most famous Ferrari 250 of them all was the 250 GTO. Often called the "First Supercar" this led to the radically restyled GTO/64 in 1864 of which only 39 cars were ever built. .

The diminutive 853 went resembled a section of the 250GT's SOHC V-12 engine right down to the characteristic black crinkle paint on its tiny valve cover.

After several false starts, a prototipo appeared at the prestigious 1961 Turin Automobile show. Called the Mille (for 1000), the petite fastback's lines were drawn by the then rising Bertone star Giorgetto Giugiaro. No Ferrari badges were evident, but cognoscenti knew Maranello was responsible for the twin Weber, 96 barrel horse power (bhp) one liter engine. The tubular chassis (a miniature Ferrari knockoff) was designed by Giotto Bizzarini himself.

Ferrari himself had no plans to finance the venture. Driving a proptype around enthusiastically, the "old man" sought other partners for that purpose. His well known legendary showmanship worked. Exactly one year later, the little car reappeared at Turin, now badged as a Ferrari ASA 1000GT, sponsored by a trio of well known racing drives - ingegnere Bizzarini and a corporate sponsor.

Yet again after several more false starts, production models finally bowed in 1964. Luckily for American motor vehicle enthusiasts and consumes most of these special little sports cars were destined for the U.S. sports automotive markets. The American Ferrari distributor of the time, Luigi Chinetti offered the little berlinetta at a price of $ 6200. Perhaps at this price point the sports car was unrealistically priced since a contemporary Chevrolet 427 Corvette sold in the region of $ 4500.

Despite an ambitious, Targa Flora racing effort and an overbored alloy Competizione version, called the Berlinetta 411, sales faltered. Prices were drastically reduced to clear the remaining "orphans". Perhaps fifty to seventy-five ASA 1000GTs, including a few fiberglass-bodied convertibles was built in total. Of this amount thirty two found American homes and registration. The whole venture folded ingnomiously by the year of 1967.

Driven around today in 2008, the midget has a distinctive raspy "bark". Due to the tubular , independent front suspension and full four wheel disc brakes handling of these now classic Ferrari sports cars has been always been much more than would be considered decent and acceptable for a car of its time and sports motor car vintage and pedigree.

In the end the demise this little jewel of a sports car, the Ferrari "Ferrariana", was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Detroit's 60's "Muscle Cars" were just too powerful with their massive V-8 engines as well as being less expensive for car buyers to purchase or finance.

How Is a Limousine Manufactured?

Building, or stretching a vehicle and make it a limousine is a very complicated job. The process of taking a standard, mass-produced automobile such as a Lincoln Towncar or a Hummer limo and producing a full sized, fully loaded limousine involves many processes. In addition to these processes, a team of well trained professionals are required. Such professionals are safety professionals, engineers, mechanics, interior fabricators, and welders.

A base vehicle, usually a Lincoln Towncar, which is the standard vehicle, is brought from the manufacturer and then is stripped, cut, and separated into two separate halves. Many mass produced vehicles start this process, from Cadillacs, Escalades, to Hummers; although, many such vehicles are not recommended to be stretched into Limousines.

Once split, the vehicle has its framework extended with steel structures - this establishes the "stretch". The structures are welded into place and require very detailed precision to ensure a consistent, uniform structure of the chassis; an inconsistent "stretch" could cause both mechanical and safety concerns in the future. The added "stretch" module typically requires custom components and are internally produced by each individual coachbuilder. Such components include fiberglass, abs plastic, laser lights, wood finishes, upholstery, wood cabinetry, interior trim, laser cut metal fabricated parts, electrical finishes and more.

Once the stretch is added, the vehicle is moved to a body finishing process. This is where all added parts and assemblies are prepped for painting. After prep, the vehicle is painted, or "baked" in a paint spray room.

After painting, the vehicle is fashioned with the necessary electrical systems which include full limousine wiring. Next, it is furnished with detailed interior amenities by professionals. These amenities may include, luxury seating, mirror finishes, wood trim, glass holders, and other luxury amenities.

After completion, the limousine undergoes a thorough inspection process and road test which examines drivability, undercarriage, amenities, water leaks, and more. Each inspection varies by coachbuilder.

In these days every coachbuilder tries to design the most beautiful vehicle at a lower price as competition is getting fierce. You can see some these vehicles and amenities at http://www.metrocarlimo.com

Improving Your Vehicle's Value

It's time to buy a new car and you are ready to sell your old one or trade it in. To get the most value for your car, here are a few things to consider - some you can do now, others you can consider as you make your next purchase:

1. Consider Resale Value When Buying. Buy a car that will hold its value. Resale value is based on many factors, including desirability and reliability. Some makes, such as Toyota, Honda, Mercedes and Lexus, always hold their value well. Use a good used car-pricing site such Kelley Blue Book, to research the resale history of models in which you are interested. Some options, such as air conditioning or a sunroof, will improve your car's resale value; consider buying them even if they aren't on your personal must-have list.

2. Maintain and Retain. Follow the maintenance schedule recommended by your owner's manual. Keep receipts for all maintenance and repair work, no matter how minor. A stack of receipts underscores the fact that your car has been well taken care of. Savvy used car buyers will be willing to pay extra for a car with a fully documented service history. Also, fix everything in your car as soon as it breaks. If you're going to keep your car as long as possible, you have to want to keep it as long as possible. Don't ignore seemingly unimportant problems like broken trim bits, torn upholstery, or electrical glitches. Little annoyances tend to add up and can begin to erode your love affair with your old car. When making repairs, ask for quality parts. Discuss your options with your mechanic or parts store clerk.

3. Don't Damage the Goods. If your car has been in a collision, any kind of damage can affect your car's resale value. If your car was is in a major collision, it could get reported to Carfax. In any event, if your car is damaged, use an experienced repair shop with a good reputation and insist on using factory (also known as OEM, for Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts. Save all receipts and be up front and honest about any collision repair work when it comes time to sell or trade. Being evasive about collision repair may lead the buyer to believe that the damage was more extensive than you are letting on.

4. Don't customize. Spending money on your car can actually decrease its value. If you do have your car customized, stick to non-intrusive upgrades such as new wheels or an upgraded stereo that won't require extensive re-wiring or cutting up the dashboard. Before all of this, your first priority should be to fix anything that's broken or damaged for example dints in the bodywork or broken stereo equipment.

5. Keep it clean. The better your car appears to be kept up, the more it will be worth, and most people associate cleanliness with care. Washing and waxing your car on a regular basis is a much easier way to keep it looking good than paying for an expensive detail job when the time comes to sell. You can also have your car detailed; something most car dealerships do before reselling used cars, which gives the car a new car look and smell. Detailing is an investment well worth the cost.

How To Tune Your BMW On A Budget

For many bmw enthusiasts, once they buy a car, that is just the start of an extensive and sometimes costly project of modifying to get increased BMW performance. There are many hundreds of various decisions on how to go about this process. Where does one begin, what can be completed by the average home mechanic and what requires professional help? Also, where can you source the best parts at the best price? Sourcing parts is the area of modifying that you have considerable control over and where you can save the most time and expense, if you do your homework.

Now, there is more than one opinion on this subject. For BMWs, significant design and engineering was completed by BMW to make a premium car that is arguably a better overall performer than many of its peers. It is far too easy to whind up going backwards in your objective for speed by sourcing flawed parts, installing them incorrectly or not matching up the performance characteristics of various systems on your car. Also, BMW is selling a line of its own aftermarket parts so you can be assured of the quality and engineering in these parts as the rest of your car. The drawback is these parts are often more costly than their competition.

So, how can you find quality parts for your car? I am a huge fan of doing research online using a variety of tools. There are many good forums consisting of many thousands of BMW owners. With very little effort you can often find a member with your same BMW who has already done similar modifications to their BMW and can often provide some valuable insight into what works, who has the most competitive price, install instructions and more. Some of my favorites are E90Fanatics, e46fanatics and roadfly.org. Time spent here will save you signifiacnt money and frustration so you don't have to repeat the mistakes of others.

Another great source that is often overlooked is eBay. The choices is often overwhelming and there are a bunch of cheaply made, knock-off parts that you should try to stay away from. However, if you buy from a known supplier with great feedback and do your homework on the part you require and at what price, you can really maximize your modifying budget. You can source new parts, OEM BMW parts and used BMW parts quickly and easily to make your modding project a winner.

Customizing Your Mustang With Wheels

Author: Brad Gibala

Ford Mustang owners are always trying to customize their car. The Mustang is a favorite amongst sports car owners. When you are a kid you either became a Mustang or Camaro person. Those were the two that could be compared on the same page together. The Mustang has been around for over 40 years now and has seen a lot of changes along the way. Engines have became larger, than smaller, and back to big again. The style has gone from boxy to round and now to a sleeker look.

With so many Mustangs on the road it is not uncommon to see two or even three of the same color, engine size, amongst other characteristics driving down the road at the same time. People that buy these cars buy them to be noticed. You do not think about things like miles per gallon or driving in the winter when you buy it. You want attention. How are you going to be noticed when your Mustang looks like every other Mustang on the road? Ford only makes so many. If you wanted to blend in like everybody else you would have bought a Focus.

You have two options at this point. Dump a bunch of money into the engine to make it tear up the streets or invest into some new custom mustang wheels. Everybody's budget is different but regardless of it you should look into customizing your wheels. It does not matter if you own a six cylinder or a GT. This change will make any car person turn their heads and think about what those wheels would look like on their car.

The best bet for an all around great wheel would to be and find a rim in the seventeen or eightteen inch size. You will get more bang for your buck with one of these wheels. They are by no means small wheels and with the right custom wheel it will make your Mustang stand out but not lose its stock performance. Going into bigger heavier wheels will weigh down the car making it slower. If performance is not your thing than you might as well put a set of twenty inch wheels on it. When you do that be expecting to buy parts for your suspension as the stock assembly just can't take that type of beating.

Chrome Mustang wheels are common and look nice. If you really want to get people thinking you should invest into a set of black Mustang wheels for two reasons. They look awesome and they don't need all the polishing and care that a chrome wheel needs. With summer right around the corner and with television bringing back the show Knight Rider with a Mustang as the car you will want to get your black mustang wheels before everybody else.

Expensive SUVs To Fix After A Rear End Collision

You know when I was first learning to drive, my dad would jokingly say, "back-up until it sounds expensive". Well, back in those days, the 50's and 60's, you actually could do that. You could smack into something and there would hardly be a dent or scratch in the old Chevy wagon. But don't try that today.

According to the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety (IIHS), the most expensive mid size SUV that they ever had to fix after the 5 mph "rear into pole" crash test was the 2000 Isuzu Trooper. That's 5 mph; just above walking speed, and the vehicle sustained $3,317 damage. Part of the reason for all this damage is that the spare tire hangs on the end gate. When the vehicle encounters something like a pole or another vehicle the spare tire crushes the end gate, blows out the rear window and in some instances, pulls the side fender wells in.

Between 1999 and 2003, out of the 10 most expensive SUVs to fix from that same crash test (that we could find records on) as tested by the IIHS, 7 of them had the spare tire hanging on the end gate. Those vehicles (and the damage they sustained) included the Isuzu Trooper ($3,317), Mitsubishi Montero ($2,961), Toyota RAV4 ($2,719), Honda CR-V ($2,727), Land Rover Freelander ($2,096), Suzuki Grand Vitara XL7 ($2,175) and the Jeep Liberty ($1,627). Brian O'Neill of the IIHS probably said it best: "SUVs may be advertised as rugged and manufacturers tell potential buyers they can drive these vehicles anywhere adventure leads them. But consumers can expect big repair bills if they're unlucky enough to bump these so-called rugged vehicles into something at slow speeds."

It's been 27 Years since the consumer has had 5 mph bumpers (1982). Now we only have 2.5 mph bumpers and, only on passenger cars. There are NO federal bumper standards for pickup trucks, SUVs or mini vans which is one of the reasons they do so poorly. Even on the standards for passenger cars, the rules allow for unlimited damage to the bumper. And, the average cost to fix a full size pickup truck bumper from the 5 mph rear into pole collision is $1,618, and that's in 2004 prices. And some pickup trucks and SUVs don't even get tested because the IIHS only tests the most popular vehicles.

Now the IIHS has eliminated the rear into pole test because most automakers complained that it was not a "fair" test. But there's one heck of lot of parking lot poles out there just waiting to walk into your vehicle. The IIHS also found that some of the automakers were cheating by adding extra energy absorbing material right where the vehicle would hit the pole.

Today, the lightest tap from a vehicle can leave damage from $450 to over $2,000 damage. The average cost to repair a plastic bumper is $450 and the average cost to replace a plastic bumper is $900. And if you have a vehicle with a backup alarm you're looking at twice that amount. A backup alarm might help you from hitting something but it don't help in the rear end collision. There are over 12 million rear-end collisions in the USA every year - both reported and unreported and over 8 million plastic bumpers are replaced each year. The rear end collision accounts for 38% of all the dollars paid for automobile claims and you can't afford to make a claim any more. The typical insurance premium will increase 40% if a claim is made.

There are thousands of tailgaters, uninsured motorists, distracted drivers, inattentive cell phone users, drivers with poor judgment, text messengers and lousy-stinking parallel parkers out there just trying to wreck your vehicle, cripple your family, steal your deductible and jeopardize your insurance. There are products on the market today that can help you fight back. Do your homework and start protecting your family, vehicle and insurance; you can't afford not to.

Jeff is CEO of Mohr Mfg - http://www.superbumper.com - and is an expert in rear end collisions. His company makes portable, energy absorbing, spare safety bumpers that protect your vehicle from rear-end collision damage, reduce whiplash injuries, shield your gas tank from under-ride and eliminate parking lot and parallel parking dents and dings. 2008 Buick Lucerne

We're on the Road in the 2008, Buick LUCERNE

The Good: Very nice exterior styling, decent list of standard features, good engine options, roomy, quiet and comfortable interior, very safe;

The Bad: Handling is lackluster, and steering is numb.

Overall: The Lucerne is a great looking American made sedan, offering a well designed, nicely appointed, safe and very plush ride. Power: Available V-8 where most of the competition offers V6.

The 2008 Lucerne is Buick's six passenger sedan, one of Buicks newest models, initially introduced for 2006. Though the name may be new, it picks up where the LeSabre and upscale Park Avenue left off. The Lucerne can be had in XC, CXL, and CXS trim levels. Standard on the XC and CXL is the 3800 V6 which outputs just 197 horsepower. Opt up to find Buick's 4.6-liter Northstar V8 as an option on the CXL and standard on the CXS, with 275 horsepower it offers plenty of power for the large sedan. The competition has largely moved to five speed transmission, while the Lucerne offers a smooth shifting four speed automatic transmission, standard across all trim levels. The down trim CXL looses the optional V8 this year, and the high end CXS model gets a power tilt-telescoping steering column. Lucerne Super is now available topping the line with increased handling, unique interior and exterior styling cues, more power (4.6-liter V8 outputting 292 horsepower), and other upgrades.

The Lucerne is Buick's flagship sedan, a large front wheel-drive, four door that is family friendly, a best friend on that long road trip. Exterior styling has been updated from previous Buicks it's certainly more modern than your fathers Buick. Nostalgic drivers will enjoy the ride and Buick hopes it will appeal to a younger driver with the updated design. Demanding drivers may find 'love at first drive' behind the wheel of the Buick Lucerne, and it's definitely great for the long family or business trip! The Lucerne provides a plush, absorbent and very comfortable ride, thanks to the soft suspension tuning. The integrated rounded headlights and chrome waterfall grille complete the front fascia nicely.

Safety

The Lucerne scored best possible marks in Government Front, Driver and passenger and rollover crash tests; and four out of five stars for side crash front and rear. The Lucerne has a number of standard safety features, they include: six air bags, including an industry-first dual-depth front passenger air bag, Stability control is standard on CXS and Super models, optional on V6 models, rear child safety seat anchors/locks, theft-deterrent system-pass key, Tire Pressure monitoring (TPMS), 1 year of On-Star Directions with Turn-by-Turn Navigation. The lane departure warning system is a slick system that (as the name implies) alerts you if you cruise out of your lane, without your turn signal active. Also cool (optional) technology is the Side Blind Zone Alert which activates a light on your side mirror if there is a vehicle in your blind zone. Very useful, smart technology! All come with stellar five-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and four-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper protection.

Driving Impressions

You'll notice as soon as you jump inside the Lucerne the solid build quality, you feel safe inside. It's an upscale environment! As you drive around town and on the freeway the car is quiet inside, with virtually no road noise. The Lucerne has great fit & finish! Interior build quality can be a mis-match of great and sub-par quality materials, as there is some cheap plastic used inside the sedan. The gauge cluster is clean and straight forward. A nice function within the gauge cluster is the driver information center, which allows you to scroll through information, such as: Tire Pressure, Gas Mileage, Fuel range, Two Trip computers, and more. The CXS has adaptive Magnetic Ride Control shock absorbers, which tighten up the ride of the large sedan, especially when cornering, making it more fun on the long and winding road. There is virtually no steering feedback, brake feel is fine, but braking distance (in panic situations) is longer than most comparable size vehicles.

Thank you for calling On-Star!

One of my favorite features over the past couple years has become On-Star! On-Star offers a few levels of service, emergency assistance, turn-by-turn directions and hands free calling. We're discussing the turn-by-turn direction service, which is like having an unlimited set of maps in the trunk and a friend to look through them and verbally (and visually) tell you how to get to your destination, even if you don't know the name of where you're headed. We were on a road trip out of town and pressed the on-star button to find the nearest Mexican restaurant (even though we had no idea the name or location), it was so great! That's just one of the many great ways On-Star can help!

My sister-in-law was making an out of state drive recently, over a thousand miles with one of the kids along to see family out of state. Only because On-Star was there, that she could (comfortably) make the drive by herself. The service can be a lifesaver in the event something unforeseen happens.

To use On-Star, you press the button at the bottom of the rear view mirror, and usually very quickly someone is on the line to help you. You tell them where you're headed (either city, state and address - or they can look it up for you), they map it for you and directions are sent to the vehicle. During this time, the radio is muted while you discuss your needs with the operator. After the operator has found your destination, the call is ended, the radio comes back on and Directions are then sent to the vehicle. The audio turn-by-turn information (turn left at Route 66 in one mile) and the same info is updated as you drive, by text display, either on the radio (if you don't have a touch screen system) or on your driver information center (inside the gauge cluster). It's a simple solution to a problem that's been around since the car was first invented, now that I can go anywhere, how do I get there? On-Star answers the question, at the touch of a button, every time!

The Way You Feel Inside

Comfortable, spacious cabin, clean design with solid materials, the way you're coddled inside a Buick, is like few others. The controls are simple and even though it's 2008 there's no need to break out the manual to operate any of the systems. Also, this Buick has some cool available technology; like the heated washer fluid, to keep the windshield wipers from freezing to the glass on cold winter days, the Blind Zone Alert system, Lane Departure Warning system, On-Star, available touch screen nav system, Heated and cooled front seats, power sunroof - This ain't your fathers Buick! Even if you didn't grow up with a Buick in the garage and aren't reminiscing the Lucerne is very nicely appointed. With the numerous powertrain options and trim levels, it's easy to find one in this $27 - $39k price range to make your own. If you're looking for a stylish, modern sedan with seating for up to six, the Lucerne should definitely top your list of American made (the Lucerne is made in the motor city) vehicles to test drive.

Stowage

When you remember your first Buick, you remember the large roomy interior and big trunk. This Buick doesn't deviate from that legacy, in the updated Lucerne. You'll find a large spacious interior and lots of trunk space for your luggage after (or on) a long trip. Trunk space is measured at 17 cubic feet. As you'll see in the photos, it's good sized space for this legenday name plate's new sedan!

By the Numbers

By the new 2008 fuel rating the Buick Lucerne CXS with Northstar 4.6-liter V8, and 275 Horsepower - is rated at 15 city / 23 highway, and we averaged just under 19 MPG on regular fuel, combined (city and highway) driving. (CX and CXL - 3.6-liter V6 Engine is rated at 16 City/25 MPG)

 Buick LUCERNE Sticker Price EPA

CX 3.8-liter V6 $26,755 16/25 highway
CXL 3.8-liter V6 $29,400 16/25 highway
CXL Special Edition 4.6-liter V6 $31,385 16/25 highway
CXS 4.6-liter V8 $35,845 15/23 highway
Super 4.6-liter V8 $38,630 15/22 highway

Volkswagen Cars History

Today VW is one of the biggest car manufacturers in Europe. However this was not like that from the beginning.

The word "volkswagen" literally means "people's car" and this was the whole idea behind it. From the beginning VW tried to make a car that is simple enough so that the average people could afford it.

It was not exactly a new idea. Before 1930's there have been many attempts to create a simple car model. The problem however was that no matter how simple the car was made it still ended up costing more than the yearly wage of a normal worker.

History tells that while many affords was made from VW to create the perfect worker class car a new company was created. In 1930 Ferdinand Porsche made his company. Right after the creation Porsche patented a pretty complex suspension system. In this system the transversely mounted torsion bars are connected to two trailing arms on each side. That made the whole model very light. In fact it was lighter than every common suspension type.

In 1931 another company asked Porsche if they could make a model close to the last one for them. The 2 door sedan was made as a result of this project. It was very similar to Beetle and it had the suitability that was required.

The company who bought the model is called Zundapp and right after they bought the sedan model they wanted to put 1.2 liter radial engine from one of their own motorcycles. That didn't happen and this was the end of the line.

In 1933 NSU purchased a design from Porsche. It was known by the name Type 32. This new model was even closer to the upcoming KdF Wagen than its predecessor Type 12. It was pretty close to Tatra V570 too especially with some mechanically similarities.

After the World War II was over Tatra got some compensations from Volkswagen because they think that their model was pirated from KdF Wagen because of the similar technology. The KdF Wagen was made during that time and the similarities pointed that during the development major mechanical components were copied from it and used in the Tatra design model. Soon after that NSU dropped the Type 32 project.

In 1933 Porsche together with Hitler made possible for the citizen car project to continue. The Type 60 was soon created and its name soon changed to V1 (experiment 1). After a proposition made by Hitler V2 was designed to met the new convertible version criteria that was introduced.

In 1936 these models together with VW3 were put to major testing. After enough data was collected the next version - the VW30 was made. For the VW30 testing a new government company was responsible - the DAF. This was because of the Hitler's regime.

Members of SS were told to drive the new VW30 model and to confirm that all the problems are fixed. Soon after that in 1938 in the KdF Wagen factory the manufacturing process began. In 1939 some VW38 and a few demonstrational cars of the model VW39 came to the world.

That was made just to point out that the factory is working and to show what the future cars would look like. These models came with a difference - the front hinged doors. When V38s models were finally introduced Hitler abruptly changed the name to KdF Wagen. KdF stayed for "Kraft durch Freude" or "Strength through Joy". That made Porsche pretty upset because he was not a member of the Nazi party and the use of propaganda of this kind was not his understanding of advertisement.

Special stamps were made by the government. They were sold to people and on theory if someone got 200 stamps they could immediately be changed with a KdF Wagen. That however was not meant to be and the model didn't proceed further. In fact it stayed only as a prototype.

Many people made it to court seeking some compensation because of the stamps they had which was not going to be redeemed with a car. During that time the Type 82 was on the way. It was a simple military vehicle. It practically used the parts from KdF Wagen and its flat-sided body and increased ground clearance were some of the few differences.

During WWII Type 128 and Type 166 were created. The last was powered by a 25 hp engine. There were over 50 000 cars produced of the Type 82 and only less than 16 000 of the Schwimmwagen (Type 166).

After the war the KdF Wagen factory was taken over by the British army. Under the leadership of Major Ivan Hirsts over 2000 cars were made. Most of these cars were made by spare parts left by the old manufacturing process.

After 1945 the company was named Volkswagen and the whole town took the name "Wolfsburg" which was the name of a castle nearby. The British were looking to whom to give the control over the factory. It was very difficult because Ford though it to be a waste of money and the French government refused. Soon after that Heinrich Nordhoff took the opportunity which came to be a good step in the Volkswagen development.

In 1949 the production rapidly increased. Soon after that in 1950 the VW transporter was born. Many vehicles were transported to Denmark, Sweden, Luxemburg, Belgium, and Switzerland. In South Africa the Beetles were produced during the same year.

In 1952 dealership opened doors in England which was the first there. In 1951 deluxe version of the Beetle was exported. In 1952 the American deluxe Beetles got hydraulic brakes.

Beetles made before and some during the 1953 looked a lot like the old KdF Wagen. In 1955 the Karmann Ghia was introduced. It was made by many of the Beetle parts to keep the production line cheaper. In 1977 the production of the Beetle sedan ended. Two years after that cabriolet production stopped too.

However it is pretty interesting that Beetles are used and produced in Mexico even today.

Audi Cars History

Audi is a car manufacturing company with a big history. Data about it is provided in many places today which come to say how proud the owners of this manufacturer are. There are in fact many things that make them proud.

The foundation of the company is on 14 November 1899. This is the date when August Horch (1868 - 1951) established the company A. Horch & Cie which was the starting point of Audi that we know today. This company was established in the Ehrenfeld district of Cologne where August Horch made his first car model. The car was finished during 1901 and in March of the next year the company was moved to Reichenbach in Saxony.

Two years later the company was converted to share-issuing company. During that time another change of location took place. On the same year - 10 May 1904 a company in Zwicka was established by the name A. Horch & Cie. Motorwagen-Werke AG.

It is interesting to know that right-hand drive originated from the age of horses where carriages were used. The coachman sat in the right-hand side of this vehicle and that was lately implemented in the first car model August Horch developed but later Audi were the first to offer another solution which came to be really better. This solution is the left-hand driving. It made possible for safer way of driving because the driver has a better view on the oncoming traffic. All maneuvers are easier when using a left-hand driving and this is the reason why even today it is most commonly used. The first car which uses the left-hand drive is called Audi Type K and this happened on 1921.

The year 1926 is really significant because during it the first eight-cylinder car was introduced by Horchwerke AG of Zwickau. The Horch was the name of that car and it was the first German eight-cylinder car to go into volume production. Paul Daimler designed the engine with double overhead camshafts. They were driven by shaft set vertically to the whole camshafts body. This made possible for a 60 horsepower engine to be created.

Two years later in 1928 the first DKW car appeared. That happened because Rasmussen finally got the powerful engine he needed. That engine is 600 cc, 15 hp in the form of two-cylinder motorcycle unit.

Rasmussen got the majority of shares in Audiwerke AG. in 1928 and he made the DKW small car be with front-wheel drive. It was later produced in large numbers in the same company. This event happened in 1931 and the car had a wooden body. An imitation of leather was made on the wooden body and the old two-stroke engine was used to power the car.

Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer got together on 29th June 1932 to create the new Auto Union AG. This was a pretty big event because these 4 brands were the Saxon car manufacturing giants. Together they made their head office in Chemnitz. They were able to serve the complete production process and they made many models - even luxury saloon cars.

In the next year - 1933 at the Berlin motor show Auto Union AG presented to the general public the first standard-size passenger car with front-wheel drive. For that car a six-cylinder engine was used.

A year after that a new design for a better aero dynamical appeal won a race and it greatly increased the popularity of Auto Union. The winning racing car was based on designs of Ferdinand Porsche. The six-cylinder engine was installed on the back side of the vehicle behind the driver. That made possible for the less aero dynamical resistance to occur and less power was lost due to that.

A new head office of the company was founded in Chemnitz in 1936. During the same year the whole manufacturing process was placed there too with the main facilities for design, development and testing.

In 1937 a speed of 400 km/h was exceeded by an Auto Union racing car. That world record proved that this company made the most of their cars - lightweight, extreme engine power of 545 horsepower and a fine aero dynamical design. Even today we talk with respect about such a high speed and we could only imagine what a high-tech product these cars were for their time.

In 1938 Auto Union AG were the first to make crash tests. They wanted to see the different ways that could happen and this made possible for further and better designs regarding the safety of the passengers. This is a major issue in the industry today and we should pay our respect to the first one whom though about it.

Civilian production was interrupted because of the war in May 1940 and the company began production mainly for military purposes. Special vehicles were developed during that time which were more durable and with the ability to last even in more harsh conditions.

In 1945 Auto Union was wiped from existence with the orders of the Soviet military administration in Germany. The plants were dismantled as reparations and all assets of the company were lost during that process. In 1948 the company was deleted from the Commercial Register and 17 August 1948 is stated as its last day.

On 3 September 1949 a new company was established by the name Auto Union GmbH in Ingolstadt. Some loans from the Bavarian state government and Marshall Plan made that possible. The production process started in the same year.

Many events occur in the future of this company and everything that happened made possible for the foundation of Audi as we know it today. New world records were made and new designs were created. In 1991 design studies made possible for Audi quattro Spyder to occur and another good design with the name Audi Avus quattro.

In 1993 some aluminum elements made the cars more lightweight which was a tendency for many years.

One of the latest significant things that happened was in March 1994. This is when Audi AG presented a new car model - the Audi A8. This was a major attraction in the Geneva Motor Show.

2009 ZR1 Corvette - The King Of The Hill

Chevrolet plans to release a new corvette in 2009, well not exactly new, it's and upgraded version of the ZR1 corvette from the 1980's, and when I say up graded I mean up graded, more power, better handling, more comfortable, well yo get the idea, this car is the king of the hill, the best of the best that Chevrolet has to offer.

With it's supercharged LS9 engine it is putting out about 650 horsepower, making it the most powerful car built by Chevrolet for a long long time, and making the corvette set salivate, waiting with anticipation, chomping at the bit ready for something new, and this is just what the doctor ordered for a corvette freak.

With more then enough power to satisfy the most power hungry corvette freak, and the euro styling of the new corvette, it will no doubt be a huge seller, and no doubt be unbeatable by any stock muscle car on the market, yes I said any, and that includes the Viper, being as how the corvette can already hold it's own against the Viper.

Chevrolet has dropped the displacement of the engine down to 6.2 liters, and added another 149 horsepower, obviously this will not be a cheap car, it's not going to be a car for a person that makes $30,000 per year, it will be in the low to mid $100,000 dollar range, making it out of the budget of a normal person.

With all the technology that Chevrolet is throwing at this car, it's no wonder that it will not be cheap, I have to give them "CUDOS" for building such a cool car, it's just like that old days, when Chevrolet was the top dog, they are on their way to being the king again.

To put all that power to the ground, in a manor that won't have you fish tailing all over the road Chevrolet has added Michelin Pilot Sport 285/30ZR19s at the front of this monster, and at the rear the awesome power of this engine is being distributed by way of Michelin Pilot Sport 335/25ZR20s, this car has the stance of a muscle car, but will handle like a sports car making it the only choice for a true American muscle car guy or girl.

The ZO6 corvette had a very stiff suspension, making it difficult to drive quickly on the road, whereas the new corvette ZR1 will use some euro tech known as magneto-rheological dampers, like the Ferrari 599, the fluid in these units is filled with iron particles and the viscosity can be instantly changed by varying an electric current passing through it, ride sensors in the car take measurements every 0.001 seconds, and translate the information to the dampers every 0.002 seconds, adjusting the firmness of the ride to handle the corners much better then a stock mechanical system would.

With a six speed gear box, and Ferrari disc brakes at all four corners, stopping should be no problem either, as you well know, what speeds up must at one time on another slow down, and the brakes and transmission are just as important as the engine is to your safety, the brake rotors are made for a carbon ceramic composite, the Ferrari Enzo used these brakes on the front wheels, the corvette will use them at all four corners.

The Tremec 6060 will handle the power distribution from the engine to the road, and to show off a bit of it's new attitude, the speedometer will move for a 200 mph unit in the ZO6 Corvette, and a new 220 mph unit in the all new ZR1, with all of this awesome technology, it will be a car lovers dream come true, all that power and grace in a Chevrolet corvette, not a Porsche, not any euro car, the corvette, and American built sports car, yes I said American.

Can You Buy a Military Surplus Vehicle?

    Author: Terry Bolton

There was a time when everyone knew that if you wanted a great price on a car, you could get a military surplus Jeep. Now days, the military uses a lot more than just Jeeps to carry out its business, and the military still deals in mass numbers of each type of military surplus vehicle.

The military also has the latest equipment in their vehicles so they are suited for the purpose for which they were intended. When the older vehicles' equipment is not up to par with what they need at the present, it is cheaper to buy one with it already installed. So the surplus automobiles are sold to get a little of their initial investment back.

How Can I Buy Military Surplus Vehicles?

Online military auctions are one method to use to find the type of vehicle you are looking for. The drawbacks are that you cannot physically examine the vehicle which a lot of people like to do prior to purchasing. However if there is a problem with the auto it is usually stated in the specifications.

A live military surplus auction is another way to find the auto that you are looking for. These auctions are great for allowing you to inspect the vehicle first and decide if you want to bid on it. They even sell motorcycles and airplanes at these auctions.

If you live near a large military base, keep your eyes open for when they have an auction. There are many places within a drivable area that have these auctions at least one time a year. The government would rather sell these vehicles than have to equip them with newer technological advances that the military must have to keep up to standards.

Where Can I Find an Online Auction to Purchase Military Surplus?

There are many internet sites that advertise military surplus vehicles. If you are looking for an online auction you need to go to the resource box on this page and click to enter the world of military surplus sales. The deals will amaze you and you just might find yourself the proud new owner of a jeep, truck, or any other military vehicle that is available. Some of these vehicles go for pennies on the dollar.

Many of the online auction sites will ship your vehicle to you. They will naturally charge a fee for doing this, but in the end it is probably more convenient and cheaper than trying to get it to you any other way. If you are close enough to where the auction is being held you are welcome to come in and get all the necessary paperwork and take your military surplus home with you.

This is a big business for the military because they take vehicles that are no longer needed and sell them to the public for a cheap price. Another good thing to know about these vehicles, is the military trains their own mechanics, so if something major is wrong with a vehicle, they will list it with the description.

Top 5 Used Cars for Your Kid

If you're looking for reliable, used transportation for your college-bound child, check the following vehicles first - they are probably your best bets. And they're all under $5,000.

    Geo Prizm, '95-'97

    Chevrolet Prizm, '98

    Honda Civic, '94

    Ford Taurus, '97-'98

    Subaru Legacy, '96

Here are some general tips when considering a used vehicle:

    Before you shop

    - Get your financing in place before choosing a car. Knowing exactly what you can afford will save you time.

    - Be aware of the current "going rate" of vehicles before purchasing by checking automotive guides available online and in most bookstores and libraries.

    - Consider all different outlets for used vehicles such as trade-ins at new car dealerships or private sales, not just secondhand car dealers.

    General Advice when inspecting vehicles

Never buy a car without test-driving it yourself. First, make sure you are insured to drive it. Then, if possible, take it on a drive that covers a mixture of conditions: fast highway driving, slow urban driving, and twisting roads. Don't forget to check the reverse gear.

    Before making an offer

    - After the car passes your personal inspection and test-drive, there are a few more things to bear in mind before making an offer

    - Ask to see service and repair history as well as repair receipts. Treat a denial that these receipts exist with suspicion.

    - Check whether the mileage on the odometer corresponds with service and repair receipts.

    - Check to make sure that the car's 17 digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN for short) matches the car's ID number on the registration document.

    - Ask if it is permissible to have the car inspected by an independent mechanic. If it is (and you can afford the added expense), ask the mechanic to carry out a cylinder compression test to assess the condition of the engine and to estimate the cost of any repairs that he/she thinks may be warranted. You can then ask for the cost of these repairs to be deducted from the asking price.

    - If you have a car to trade in, don't mention it until you have negotiated a discount for the one you want to buy.

Also, when buying a pre-owned vehicle, it may be worth investing in a warranty. Read the warranty small print very carefully, as some warranties exclude more than they cover.

    Happy car shopping!

    Ford Mustang History

There are times, in rare instances, that a fad turns a corner and becomes something more. The Beatles are a good example of this phenomenon. They invaded U.S. soil with their long hair and rock music. Many parents hoped that they were a fad that would eventually fade away, but instead, the Beatles went on to influence music for decades. The Beatles became a cultural icon and set the pace for rock music, as we now know it.

Another cultural icon is the Ford Mustang. One of the very first muscle cars, the Mustang set the tone for performance and handling and gave car makers new goals to reach if they wanted to compete. When the Ford Mustang was unveiled April 1964, other car manufacturers were sent on a mad dash to create their own versions of high performance cars just to keep up with the Mustang. However, the Pony car was in a class by itself - and still is. What the Beatles did for rock music, the Ford Mustang did for cars. The Mustang set a standard by which all other muscle cars would be compared.

From the moment that the Ford Mustang rolled off the production line, it was America's sweetheart. The Ford Mustang launch is considered one of the most successful product launches in automotive history. The unveiling created considerable excitement among the American pubic.

So much so that within the first 18 months more than one million units were sold. Of course, with so much excitement about a car that is as American as baseball and apple pie, there are bound to be legends surrounding it. Tales of men sleeping in their Mustangs at the dealership for several days while waiting for their checks to clear are just a taste of the stories that surround this American classic.

Ford's marketing campaign was not only genius for its day, but it was also one of the most profitable in history. The day before unveiling the Mustang, Ford ran Mustang commercials on the three major networks, ABC, NBC, and CBS, at 9:30 p.m. This created the buzz about the car that would eventually lead to a buying frenzy. The following day, April 17, 1964, the Ford Mustang was unveiled at the World's Fair in Flushing Meadows, New York.

It was unveiled at the Ford Pavilion and was introduced by Henry Ford II when he introduced Walt Disney's Magic Skyway ride. On the ride, the guests rode in Ford vehicles as they rode through history. Moreover, the frenzy began.

Early Mustangs were available with four engine options. One was the 289 cubic inch High Performance V 8. That bad boy kicked it with 271 horses. As word got out, dealerships were overwhelmed with people who wanted to be among the groundbreakers who owned a Ford Mustang.

History was made as a Wimbledon White convertible rolled off the production line and became the very first Mustang. It had a 260 cubic inch V 8. The now historic VIN was 5F08F100001. The car toured the United States, acting as a promotional tool for Ford until an airline captain from Canada, Stanley Tucker, acquired it.

Mustang 5F08F100001 spent some time in Canada with captain Tucker, but then in 1966 the executive director of the Henry Ford Museum, Donald Shelly, requested acquisition of it. Shelly stated in a letter that it was believed that the Ford Mustang would become a milestone car in the automotive industry. It was believed, he stated, that other car makers would use the Ford Mustang as a standard of measure and it would set the tone for other high performance, high power cars. They were right.

    The New 3-Series BMW Unveils

All-New 2006 BMW 3 Series and Enhanced 2006 7 Series Make North American Debut at The New York International Auto Show

Prices Announced for 2006 3 Series, 7 Series as well as 5 Series

NEW YORK, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The all-new 2006 3 Series and the enhanced 2006 7 Series make their North American debut at the New York International Auto Show. Prices were announced for the 2006 3 Series and 7 Series as well as the 2006 5 Series, including all-wheel drive models. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices for the 325i and 330i sedans are $30,995 and $36,995 respectively. Prices for the 750i with its new 360 hp V8 begin at $71,195. Prices for the 2006 5 Series, which feature all-new inline six cylinder engines and available all-wheel drive start from $42,495 for the 525i. The 530xi Sports Wagon has an MSRP of $51,795. All prices include destination and handling. All of these early 2006 models will be available beginning this May.

    The all-new BMW 3 Series:
The quintessential sport sedan blends cutting edge technology with remarkable value

The fifth generation BMW 3 Series will yet again improve and refine a concept BMW pioneered more than forty years ago -- the sport sedan. The new 3 Series continues to offer style and quality combined with a unique combination of performance, practicality and European luxury in a compact package.

Above all, the 3 Series is renowned for how it drives. Since the beginning, the 3 Series has always been remarkably agile and pleasurable to drive, without compromising comfort and everyday usability. Though many have tried and are still trying, no one else quite knows how to match this constellation of attributes.

The new 2006 3 Series will arrive this May with two models available, the 325i and 330i. Two inline six-cylinder engines continue a 3 Series tradition. The all-new 3.0-liter unit in the 330i offers a significant increase in performance. It is rated at 255-horsepower at 6600 rpm, a 30-horsepower increase over its predecessor and has 220 lb-ft of torque at 2750 rpm. The 325i will now also feature a new 3.0-liter engine. This engine is rated at 215-horsepower at 6250 rpm and 185 lb-ft of torque at 2750 rpm.

In BMW's ongoing pursuit of weight reduction, this engine is the first in large-scale series production to use magnesium which, compared to aluminum, is 30 percent lighter. This engine is also the first six-cylinder to use BMW VALVETRONIC. With infinitely variable valve lift in place of the traditional throttle butterfly, this system improves both throttle response and fuel efficiency. Like previous BMW engines which have incorporated VALVETRONIC, the gains are impressive. In the case of the 330i, horsepower increases by 13%, while fuel consumption decreases by as much as 9%, depending on model. This unique technology works in tandem with BMW's double-VANOS variable valve timing for both intake and exhaust camshafts. The new 330i with manual transmission will accelerate from 0 - 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. Both models will be offered with a choice of a standard six-speed manual transmission or optional six-speed STEPTRONIC automatic transmission.

The 3 Series will be available with all-wheel drive, features BMW's xDrive, beginning this October.

The front suspension is enhanced to include BMW's double-pivot strut design while the rear suspension features a new five-link design. BMW has been able to further capitalize on its Dynamic Stability Control with a number of new features. When brakes risk fading due to heat build up caused by hard use, Brake Fade Compensation automatically reacts by increasing the hydraulic pressure relative to pedal force. When the driver lifts off the accelerator pedal abruptly, Brake Stand-by enables DSC to recognize that sharp braking may be about to occur and applies just enough pressure in the brake system to snug up the pads against the rotors. With Brake Drying, acting on input from the rain sensor the pads are periodically brought up to the rotors - just enough to eliminate any film of water between pads and rotors, but not enough to cause a brake application. Comfort Stop ensures smooth stops by modulating the brakes as the car comes to rest. Start-Off Assistant holds the car on a hill enabling a smooth start-off from rest.

With all this technology, the MSRPs of the 325i and 330i are $30,995 and $36,995 respectively. A typically equipped 325i includes the Premium Package, an automatic transmission, leather upholstery and metallic paint. At $35,645, a typically equipped 2006 325i is only $150 more than its 2005 counterpart and has substantially more equipment. When you factor in the Xenon Adaptive Headlights which are standard on the 2006 330i, that model with Premium Package, automatic transmission and metallic paint is actually $100 less than a similarly equipped 2005 model, again with substantially more equipment.

    2006 7 Series:

Design enhancements inside and out are complemented by more power for V8 models

Since its introduction in 2002, the fourth generation 7 Series has proven to be the most successful 7 Series ever. The 2006 7 Series exterior receives subtle but significant refinements. Forward of the windshield, new elements include a larger rendition of BMW's traditional "kidney" grilles; a new bumper/spoiler ensemble; new headlights and foglights; and a re-contoured hood. The rear bumper's wraparound tucks in more noticeably at the wheelwell and thus visually emphasizes a 14-mm/0.6-in. wider rear track. Both 750 models have a new standard wheel design, with seven relatively wide spokes reaching right out to the rim. The trunklid is newly shaped while retaining the original's advantages in terms of aerodynamics and cargo space; the taillights now wrap into the lid, and are accented by a slender bright strip.

The refinements are carried into the interior as well. New climate- control knobs present improved tactile feel to the user, and are trimmed in an elegant new Titanium galvanic material that also appears in other details. The iDrive system's controller has a new, handier shape and a handsome leather insert on top. Functional enhancements include the audio system's new hard controls for AM/FM and entertainment source selection; MP3 capability added to the CD changer (standard 760i/Li, optional 750i/Li); and a Bluetooth cellphone interface. Whereas previously the 7 Series came standard with an installed (but also portable) phone, owners will now select their own phone from a list of BMW-approved handheld phones and can keep up with the latest developments in this fast-moving technology while also enjoying standard hands-free calling, auto-dial functions and Voice Command convenience. Encompassing an extensive array of features and functions within its pioneering color-display- and-controller concept, iDrive has again been refined and made more user- friendly.

The new 750i and 750iL feature a new 4.8-liter VALVETRONIC V8 engine. With 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, this represents an increase of 35 horsepower and 30 lb-ft of torque over their predecessors. Although official 0 - 60 mph acceleration times are little changed at 5.8 seconds, the real story here is more urge virtually anytime the driver presses down on the accelerator pedal, especially at midrange speeds. The 6.0-liter V12 in the 760i and 760Li remains unchanged offering 438 horsepower and 444 lb-ft of torque. Both are mated to a 6-speed STEPTRONIC automatic transmission.

The price of the 750i and 750Li are $71,195 and $75,195 respectively. This represents a $600 increase over the previous models. Prices for the 2006 760i and 760Li are $110,695 and $118,095 respectively.

    2006 5 Series:
New six-cylinder engines, available all-wheel drive and the return of the Sports Wagon

In only its third model year the latest 5 Series enters the 2006 model year with BMW's newest generation of inline 6-cylinder engines, available all- wheel drive and the return of the 5 Series Sports Wagon. The 5 Series shares its two 3-liter engines with the new 3 Series. The 525i/xi go from 184 to 215 horsepower while the 530i/xi go from 225 to 255 hp. All models are offered with a 6-speed manual transmission with an available 6-speed STEPTRONIC automatic. The 530i is also available with a 6-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox.

The 5 Series are the first passenger cars that use BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system, which has proven itself in the X3 and X5 Sports Activity Vehicles. xDrive goes beyond the traditional advantages of all-wheel drive to offer the driver an even higher level of stability and traction in all driving situations. While conventional all-wheel drive only responds when the wheels are already spinning, xDrive begins to react even before wheel spin is able to build up. Via an electronically control led multiple-plate clutch, the flow of power is redistributed within milliseconds between the two axles in the interest of enhanced traction, driving stability and agility.

The 5 Series Sports Wagon returns as the 530xi. Offered only as an all- wheel drive model, the 530xi Sports Wagon offers advantages not only over the Sedans, but also over its predecessor, last offered in 2003. The 530xi abounds with rational design and thoughtful details which include a high-lift tailgate -- almost 73 in. head clearance -- with Soft Close feature. The tailgate is electrically released from the exterior or interior switch or the remote. The rear window may be opened separately, for convenient loading without opening the tailgate. A power opening and closing feature is included in the Premium Package. Wider than that in the previous Wagon, and with straight, essentially vertical sides, the cargo area offers 17.6 cu ft. of volume up to the tops of the upright rear seats and a maximum of 58.3 cu ft., rear seats folded, cargo loaded to ceiling. The cargo area includes a lockable storage space under the cargo floor, in a tray with adjustable dividers to help secure smaller objects.

Like the Sedans, the Sports Wagon comes standard with a power moonroof; however, the Wagon's is a dual-panel Panorama Moonroof, a feature also seen in the X3 and X5 Series. With its overall roof opening of 41.9 x 34.8 in., the Panorama concept gives occupants almost the feeling of being in a convertible. The power glass roof consists of two panels, both of which can be tilted up at the rear. The forward, larger panel can also be slid open; together, their glass area is almost 10 square feet. Although the glass is effectively tinted, there is also a power-operated interior shade; a wind deflector rises at the front of the opening to reduce wind buffeting when panels are open. All motions have 1-touch operation, including that of the interior shade.

In addition to other enhancements, Servotronic vehicle-speed sensitive power steering is standard on all models and Adaptive Xenon Headlights are standard on 530i/xi models.

Manufacturer Suggested Retail Prices for the 525i and 530i Sedans are $42,495 and $47,195 respectively. For the all-wheel drive Sedans, the MSRPs are $44,695 for the 525xi and $49,395 for the 530xi. The all-wheel drive 530xi Sports Wagon has an MSRP of $51,795.

    New Army Stealth Hydrogen Vehicle

This $1 million working prototype hydrogen-fueled vehicle, known as the Aggressor, was built to take advantage of the technology's quiet running capabilities. Quantum Technologies spent four months building the Aggressor, which does zero to forty in four seconds. With a top speed of 80 miles per hour, the Aggressor also boasts a "very low heat signature" strengthening its stealth capabilties, according to Robert Wise of Quantum.

Already submitted to and accepted by the Army, the one-off vehicle has undergone initial testing, Wise said.

The Aggressor was built for the Army's Special Forces units, which wanted a vehicle that was "light, maneuverable and very quick," Wise said, for situations "where a they need to get somewhere quick, quietly."

The Aggressor has a range of 125 miles and a mind-boggling 1,681 Ft-lbs. of torque. [Compare the new Dodge Charger SRT, which has 420 Ft-lbs. of torque.]. In addition to the primary fuel source of a 10 kw hydrogen fuel cell stack, the vehicle also has a 60 kw nickel metal hydride battery, that kicks in when quick acceleration or hard maneuvers are needed.

The Aggressor is set to go back to the Army for six months of hard testing. The project's future is still undecided, but typically, if the military wanted to go forward with the concept they would first order another 4 to 6 prototypes to put them through realistic field trials. If that second stage proved successful, a final production run would be commissioned.

The Aggressor is a two-seater that has a combined rollbar and gear cage in place of an enclosure, and an open storage area in the rear. It also includes power outlets to run equipment such as laptops and radios in the field.

The removable MOMO steering wheel does not have a horn, Wise said, "because that would take away from its stealth capabilities."

    Mitsubishi Parts for Technical Strengths

    Author: Aaron Young

Mitsubishi is a group of people that consists of a huge number of independent companies. The names of the majority of those companies contain the word "Mitsubishi" and had their origin to a shipping company started in 1870 by a man named Yataro Iwasaki. Yataro also established businesses in mining, shipbuilding, banking and insurance. He thus arranged the foundation for the subsequent growth and development of the Mitsubishi companies. The companies also share a common legacy and tradition of excellence which dated way back in 1870.

The first Mitsubishi Company was involved in shipping and later shifted into coal mining, shipbuilding, banking, insurance, warehousing and trade. The diversity of the Mitsubishi products covered from paper to steel, electrical equipments, aircrafts and autos. Mitsubishi also took a role in the world history as it manufactured the famous Zero aircraft that was used in the attack on the Pearl Harbor during the World War II. After the war, Mitsubishi divided into various independent companies in 1946 but each utilized Mitsubishi's accumulated technology and technical strengths in building their own businesses. Independent Mitsubishi companies cooperated in some ventures and likewise competed with one another in some aspects.

A lot of companies share Mitsubishi's name thus the brand can be identified with different industries. The Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is only one of them and it is devoted to manufacturing of automobiles making it the fourth largest car manufacturer in Japan.

There is no need to invest a lot in Mitsubishi parts especially if it is not required. That is one big advantage of using Mitsubishi. All parts are reasonably made without compromising the high quality and performance. Mitsubishi parts like air filters, oil filters, Mitsubishi brakes, brush guard, bug shields, bulbs, fan blade, fan clutch, brake keeper, car mirror, hood, fan shroud and so much more are accurately made. Ford Auto Parts: Keeping the Vision of Quality and Technology

    Author: Aaron Young

The Ford Motor Company began as a dream of one man to bridge people with advanced transport technology. It was an ambitious dream, but one that answered the needs of a society on the brink of high-gear industrialization.

It didn't come easy, however, as the company's first series of automobiles endured bouts of indifference from the market. Not losing faith, the company relentlessly continued on engineering various motor cars, until one unit, the Ford Model T, finally captured the full interest and esteem of the public. Fast track to 19 years and 15 million Model Ts later, and the Ford Motor Company has already catapulted itself into a giant enterprise in the automotive industry. And at present, after more than a hundred years of continuous hard work and pure determination in the industry, the visions of one Henry Ford are still paying off as his founding company has now become one of the most successful brands in the world.

To date, Ford Motor Company has now evolved into a family of superior automobile brands, which comprises of: Ford, Jaguar, Mazda, Mercury, Lincoln, Land Rover, and Volvo. Nevertheless, Ford has not lose sight of the vision to create top-quality and state-of-the-art vehicles. And relative to these are the corresponding top-quality and state-of-the-art components that function simultaneously. These Ford auto parts are uniquely engineered especially for Ford models to complement performance and sophisticated style that the brand is famous for. Such parts can be categorized as performance devices, exterior parts, and the interior line. Ford performance parts would include a multi-point injection fuel system, updated front and rear suspension systems that yield smoother and quieter rides, heavy-duty alternator and battery, quality four disk brakes with the equivalent ventilated discs, as well as the engine system in which case Ford is known to use powerful V6 or V8 engine concoctions. On the other hand, Ford interior and exterior parts may consist of but not limited to: chrome-finished bumpers, driver and passenger airbags, customized hubcaps, sturdy cargo liners, high-tech audio system, and power windows and locks.

As it is, all possible Ford Auto parts have been made available in the market. Said parts may be sold and provided in general terms or in a more specialized method that is relative to the Ford model, such as Ford F250 parts, Ford Focus parts, among others. The easy accessibility of these Ford Auto parts is to ensure the lifelong commitment and service that Ford provides its consumers.

    Latest Mercedes Technologies

Today of the age of mass media and information everything is progressing fast. The technology today could be way too old in just a few months. To keep things on track Mercedes offers new solutions every day. New ways to improve your way of driving and feeling into the car are implemented in every new model that goes to market.

First let's get a hint on what technology really means. If we ask Wikipedia - the biggest encyclopedia world knows today we will get the following: "Technology is a broad concept that deals with a species' usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how it affects a species' ability to control and adapt to its environment."

It is knowledge of tools and crafts. And this is what you will get for your Mercedes car - tools designed and crafted especially for your needs to make you feel better, to make you drive safer and to get your world into a new plane of existence.

Up until today Mercedes showed the world the capability to impress with precise, up-to-date parts with excellent quality. No matter if these parts are simple accessories, safety features or entertainment systems - Mercedes make them all to the best they could be in every moment.

Today the car is part of almost everyone's life. That's why many people today knows more about what they need and what they want from the next car they will drive. Buyers are giving feedback on the needs they have, on the quality they get, on the dreams that are floating into their minds.

Mercedes began reaching for everything buyers wanted starting from what is the most important aspect of these needs - safety systems. The manufacturer made even the fortune telling possible with advanced radar and cameras systems. Powerful mathematical systems analyses data provided by the radar and cameras and warn the driver about every possible danger that may occur as he drives.

For example S- and CL- class Mercedes cars are using radar-based system to detect drivers on the blind spot of the driver who are changing lanes. This system is called Blind Spot Assist and it is installed in the front and rear bumpers scanning for vehicles that are located in the blind spots where the driver could not normally see them. A warning system is telling the driver when there is a car on the blind spot giving the driver a way to react in a proper manner.

Keyless systems have been already used by other car manufacturers for Cadillac, Infinity and BMW models but Mercedes shows something pretty innovative. A credit card style system will replace the keys. It could be pretty cool to have just another card in your wallet which will be the way to enter and start your car. This is not made just to make your pocket lighter but for a better security because keys proven to be not very effective.

One very powerful tool is the highly improved navigation console system which will make your ride very effective and your final destination closer than you think. With a cool screen on the dash this system will give you the power of the global positioning satellite and some on board DVD's. A location will be easily checked and a direction to it will be shown for you. Hotels, hospitals and everything that you will need will be available for you. Maps and some pretty vital information will become your guide as you drive into an unknown area. This will make getting lost almost impossible because in every moment you could keep track on where you are and where you are going to.

Wi-Fi is a protocol for data transfer. This fine solution is implemented into almost every vehicle. It will provide information about weather, news and everything that is currently available in the region. This could be pretty entertaining too.

Many important parts of a Mercedes car are hooked up into a computer analyzing every condition they are facing and every reaction they are providing. This information is stored into the memory of the computer system and it could be easily transferred using a cellular phone or laptop. You could send this data to the manufacturer, to you personal mechanic or to anyone you choose. This enables for a perfect diagnostic to be made if it is necessary. Every problem could be solved even on-the-fly via a long-distance troubleshooting procedures.

One good way of importing new devices will be to use the new 40 volt electrical system. This will provide you with a way to use even more devices in your car. Of course keep in mind that every new device you hook up will require additional power which will cost you. However don't let that stopping you from using things you really need.

There is a voice prompt available for you too. This will literally enable you to "talk" to your car. It will not even mean that you are going crazy because a powerful artificial intelligence will analyze your voice and make the proper adjustments you require. For example picking a radio station will be very easy for you. You will only need to tell the system that you want a radio and the station you want to listen to. It could be pretty fun but try not to call it Tracy, Vicky or in any other female name while you are talking to your wife on the phone.

Electrically controlled pedals are available for some time now in many Mercedes vehicles. The force you apply to the pedal will not mechanically set the brakes or accelerator on motion. It will only send a signal that a motion is required. This enables the action to occur quickly. This could safe you time when every second counts. For example you will be able to use the breaks in the moment you push the pedal which in many situations could be extremely important.

Some programmable Mercedes vehicles are available too. They use electronics to adjust the Mercedes car to the needs of the driver. For example lowering or raising ground clearance could be made easily. This enables the driver to pick the right choice for him.
