Vintage 1960s Pontiac Cars


Remember the 60s? They were a time of beach tunes, tie-dye, bell-bottoms, and muscle cars. Vintage 1960s Pontiac cars were some of the biggest, baddest muscle cars on the block, with the GTO and Firebird at the head of the list.

The Models

The Pontiac Bonneville. This classic of the vintage 1960s Pontiac cars was one of the biggest, and it was perfect for big families who wanted to impress the neighbors. Available in a convertible or hardtop, the engine packed 389 cubic inches offering 348 horsepower paired with Tri-Power carburetion.

The Catalina. It might not be the most memorable of the vintage 1960s vintage Pontiac cars, but the Catalina could pack a wallop. It was a big boat of a car with a 421-inch V-8 engine that could speedily accelerate to 95 miles per hour in the 2 + 2 model of 1964-1967.

The Firebird. This was the Pontiac version of the sporty Chevy Camaro, and its low price made it popular with young drivers. Produced from 1967 through 1969, it offered both six and V-8 versions with up to 250 horsepower.

The Grand Prix. This was one of Pontiac's biggest models, and it lost sales in the 1960s to many of Pontiac's smaller, high-performance cars, like the GTO.

The GTO. One of the most famous of the vintage 1960s Pontiac cars, the GTO is still seen as one of the best muscle cars of the 1960s. It was actually smaller than many of the other muscle cars, and with a 421-cubic inch engine, its top speed was 130 miles per hour. It still retains an aura of power and magic today.

The Tempest. The Tempest was one of Pontiac's first attempts at a compact car, which were just becoming popular in the early 1960s. It was actually based on the ill-fated Chevy Corvair, the rear engine air-cooled engine car that became one of Chevy's worst cars in history. However, the Tempest had different styling and a front-mounted engine, so its fate wasn't as harsh as the Corvair. The four-cylinder engine was revolutionary for its day, and was developed in part by automaker John Z. DeLorean.

The Ventura. The Ventura was only produced in 1960 and 1961, and after that, it merged into the Grand Prix line. It was based on the Catalina body and frame, and after 1961, the Ventura disappeared into the sunset.

So, what did a Pontiac set you back way back in the day?

• A Pontiac Bonneville would run you around $3,255 in 1961, but by 1969 the price had risen to $4,733.
• A Pontiac Catalina would run you about $3,149 in 1964, but that's a bargain considering the power and performance of the Catalina.
• In 1967, the popular Pontiac Firebird was a steal at $2,667, which may be one reason this fleet little model was so trendy.
• The big, bad Pontiac GTO was only $3,227 in 1968, and considering the power under the hood, that was quite a bargain.
• Finally, the family model, compact Pontiac Tempest ran $2,418 in 1963, making it a great car for small families on the go.

The Holden Monaro


The Holden Monaro was billed as Australia's first fully home-grown sports coupe and was launched in 1968. The Holden Monaro had universal appeal and the shape was a result of a brand new Holden design which was purely based on the muscle cars of the United States of America.

The pillarless two-door design was a new model concept for Australia and came with a choice of 3 different styles. Holden catered for the people who aspired to own a sporty coupe, be it the standard, GTS and GTS 327 with a choice of 6 engines. Each model had a wide body, flared wheel arches and a sweeping roofiine.

The standard Monaro was powered by a 3.05 litre six cylinder engine coupled with a column shift 3 speed manual. Choices in motors ranged from a higher spec 186S and the imported 5.0 litre 307 V8. The GTS 327 Monaro dominated the race tracks and became an instant hit with the Australian public.

Four Cylinder Cadillac For 2010?


The news coming from General Motors these past few weeks has been arriving at a staggering pace. Early in August 2008, the automaker rolled out the 2010 Chevy Camaro and promptly followed that announcement up with updated photographs showing its proposed plug-in hybrid, the Chevrolet Volt.

Over the coming weeks, GM announced important changes for Cadillac including the showcasing of its second generation SRX crossover and new models for the CTS line, a wagon and a coupe. After that, GM once again touted a new car for its Chevrolet line up, the Cruze, a compact car which will officially be introduced at September's Paris Auto Show.

Most recently, GM has been indicating that a compact Cadillac was in the works and, according to industry media leader AutoWeek, such a car will be in Cadillac showrooms in 2010. Yes, a four cylinder Cadillac apparently is on its way!

Shades of Cimarron.

The not yet officially announced (therefore, unnamed) vehicle might remind Cadillac faithful of the Cimarron, a four cylinder subcompact car that was on the market for a few years in the early 1980s. That car had the terrible distinction of sullying Cadillac's image for years as the Cimarron was part of GM's J-car family, cars which were sold across the automaker's product lines most notably included the Chevrolet Cavalier.

In the 1990s, GM rolled out the Catera, a compact Cadillac built in Germany by its Opel division. Though somewhat larger than the Cimarron it, too, failed as customers found the marketing campaign wanting and discovered that the Catera had numerous quality issues.

Three's A Charm?

Specifics about GM's third attempt at a small Cadillac are wanting, therefore we can only draw upon speculation for now. However, given that the Cruze was just announced, the platform for that vehicle could underpin the new Cadillac. In any case, the new Cadillac might be the second generation BLS, a car sold by Cadillac in Europe and elsewhere, but currently not available in the US and Canada. That would be the natural step to take, though the BLS nomenclature could be changed to something else to comply with current Cadillac naming convention (DTS, STS, CTS).

Let's just hope that whatever car GM builds for Cadillac doesn't remind us of a Chevrolet; consumers might be ready for a fuel efficient four cylinder model, but they'll stay away from a vehicle that fails to live up to their lofty expectations.

So maybe these features aren't quite what James Bond looks for in a car, but with that much quality, it might at least make it on the list. The 2005 Acura RSX


Are you still living in the past? It's time for you to start living in the future. Introducing the Acura RSX. This car is mainly targeted at younger people with the intent for college or school.

I would strongly hope to convince anyone to use this as a student car. The Acura RSX is still a fairly popular model of a car. These are some beautiful cars even if you did choose the color green. The preferable color that is known for this particular California driving car is blue or silver which is an magnificent breed of color today for sporty automobiles.

If you would consider buying an Acura RSX 2005 then you would pay around $18,000 dollars for this particular brand. Considering the price for this automobile, the mileage would be around 40,000 miles if purchased. Acura is known as the fancy racing car for many people on the roads of the United States.

The body style of this car is a coupe which makes it durable for racing. The fuel type of the Acura RSX is gasoline if you didn't know. The only thing that was inconvenient for me was that it only has two doors. If you have a family to look after then you might not want to buy this car because it's not a family car.

This car is one of the best on the road for youthful people looking for a car. Overall, I give this car an 7/10 because it only serves a purpose for non-family like people. If you like this car then I have some great information for you today.
