Search For A Used Honda Civic

You can use the internet and your home computer to quickly and easily search with private sellers and used car dealers for a Honda Civic. As this is a very popular choice of car you are able to search through what could be hundreds of vehicles depending on how far you wish to travel to view the car.

A specialist website will give you one of the most powerful tools available when it comes to searching for a specific car. Their search tool will allow you to define certain criteria such as the area in which you wish to travel, the price and of course the model, in this case a used Honda Civic.

Before you start your search for your dream car you should decide if you want to target your search at private sellers or used Honda dealers. If you choose to go with a dealer then you might have a larger choice but you also could have to travel many miles from you home when it comes to looking at the car. The car dealership can also offer finance for the car although it would be wise to get quotes online with a specialist car finance website for a more attractive interest rate. If you choose to look for a used Honda Civic with a private seller then you can get the car a little cheaper but you do have to be aware of con men. You should always get the car checked over with a car data check if buying from a private seller - all you need is the vehicle identification number.

Whichever way you choose to find your used Honda Civic a specialist website will be able to give you a huge amount of information that you can put to good use before beginning your search. You can use it to find out how much a car of the age you are looking for is going for roughly and the different ways to finance your used car if finance is needed.

Once you have all the information to hand then type in the search box the criteria you wish such as mileage on the car, age, colour and the area in which you wish to travel. Following this you will be presented with listings to match your ideal car. All listings for cars should be accompanied with clear photographs of the car and of course a complete description of the car. While the basics such as mileage, service history, tax and test should be included, the best listings will also include any extras and will boast the good points of the used Honda Civic and also any bad points.

However using the internet when it comes to searching for a used Honda Civic is just one of the many ways that a specialist website can help. Before you begin your search you should take the advice and hints, tips and information which can help you to get the most out of your search for used cars. This will hopefully lead you to buying a car that will give you many trouble free years' of motoring.

Amateur Road Racing Safety

Author: Craig Markusic

Danger is always present in auto racing. Race car drivers recognize the danger and take steps to reduce the risks. Aside from staying alert, the drivers ensure that their race cars are equipped with various safety devices. For the next auto racing season, this is how safety is prepared in the Acura Integra. The underlying principles in safety preparation can also be applied in other race cars.

Structure
The car already has a well-built 8-point welded-in roll cage from The ROLLCAGEGUY in Akron Ohio. I plan to add a few more bars and reinforcements before next season because I never feel quite safe enough. The bars will also serve to add some structural rigidity to the chassis. The driver’s side features NASCAR style door bars that extend into the door cavity close to the outer skin. The original factory door beams are still in place. NASA allows the removal of the factory door beams if NASCAR style beams are installed with the cage. My personal opinion is that the factory beams should be left in place, at least on the driver’s side.

The material used for the Integra factory beams is several times stronger than the mild steel tubing used in most amateur race car’s roll cages and is required, by US Federal motor vehicle safety regulation 214, to resist a load equal to two times the curb weight of the vehicle during the first 18 inches of deformation when crushed with a 12 inch diameter steel ram. If the beam is removed from the door, you are left with a sheet metal shell typically constructed of steel less than one millimeter thick and that will provide essentially no crush resistance.

The other structural element that I’ve seen to be the target for weight removal in some Integras and Civics is the side center pillar gusset. This is a large steel reinforcement that bolts to the rear seat cross member and extends to the base of the center pillar (right below where the front row factory seat belt retractors mount). I’m not sure if the NASA rules explicitly allow the removal of these parts. The gussets serve to reinforce and anchor the base of the pillar and provide a substantial amount of crush resistance to the side of the vehicle during an impact. They should never be removed under any circumstance.

Fire
I’ll be installing a Safecraft fire system this winter. Hand held extinguishers are legal but I’d prefer not to have to fumble around unlatching and aiming an extinguisher in the event of a fire. It is much simpler to just pull the release handle. The system uses Halon 1301, which is toxic if inhaled, but doesn’t leave a residue when deployed. Hopefully I never have to use it.

Seat
I’m currently using the HRP Racing Products aluminum road-racing seat. It’s essentially a Kirky deluxe road-racing seat with the HRP logo and fire resistance cover. It’s a nice seat but NASA rule changes in 2007 require the use of a head restraint seat and/or a head restraint net (right side containment net). I could have kept the seat and just added the net but I like the combination of the head restraint seat and net and feel that it will provide the best level of safety.

I purchased a Racetech RT-4009WTHR seat with head restraint and their Viper side net through Harrison Motorsports. This model has provisions for a back support, which is unusual for a composite seat. We’ll add an article later outlining the seat installation process. Or you can find more information in our website.

Restraint/Harness
I’m currently using a Schroth 6-point with quick release latch. It is FIA-approved so it only has to be replaced every 5 years versus approximately every two to three years for an SFI-approved harness. I have used TeamTech harnesses up until 2005 when I purchased a HANS device. I wasn’t comfortable with how the 3-inch shoulder straps of the Teamtech harness fit over the HANS device so I switched to the Schroth unit with more HANS compatible 2-inch wide shoulder webbing. Teamtech now offers a HANS compatible harness with 2-inch shoulder straps and I like the additional features they offer such as pelvis and thorax padding and a torso strap so I might be switching back soon.

HANS Device
If you enjoy having your head properly attached to your neck, this is a good investment. I don’t think it will be too much longer before it becomes a requirement in SCCA and NASA club events. It’s pricey but it is a relative bargain when compared to the alternatives. If your racing budget won’t accommodate the purchase of the HANS (Head and Neck Restraint System) or a similar device then you should stop racing until it does. If you have a friend that competes in a different class you can always share the HANS. The helmet mounting tabs are inexpensive so this would be a reasonable way to stay safe on a budget.

Getting The Car Of Your Dreams

You can get a great deal and the car of your dreams if you choose to look for your used car online. However there are some unscrupulous people out there who will try to sell a car that has been stolen or has been written off in an accident. When it comes to buying via a private sale you have to follow a few simple guidelines so that you get a bargain and not an old banger - or even worse.

The easiest way to find the right car for you s is to go online with a specialist motoring website. A site such as this will have thousands of cars all listed by private sellers and by conducting a search you are able to find a specific make and model within seconds. Once you have narrowed down your search, browsed through the photos and read the listing you will then have to make contact with the seller. However before this you can benefit from doing a little research regarding the type of car you are looking for and this will give you a rough indication as to if the sellers are asking a fair price.

While you also do not want to pay too much for your used car you should also be very wary of any car that is way below the going price for a car of that make, model and age. Any car that is listed well below the average should be considered a red flag, especially if the seller has given no indication as to there being any faults with the car.

Before you actually travel to see the car, confirming the buyer is actually who they say they are, is a must. The majority of private sellers will just put a mobile telephone number and an e-mail address down on the listing and while this is often done for privacy reasons, there could be a more sinister reason. Ask the seller for their landline number and address and then check these online. Never arrange to meet anyone to take possession or to look over a car in any place other than their home. If someone is going to con you then they could simply arrange to meet you in a place which they claim would be more convenient for you, sell you the car and then disappear only for you to find out later that the vehicle was stolen.

When going to look over a car when buying via a private sale if you know very little about motors then consider taking a mechanic with you to check over the car. While you will have to pay for this it can be very worthwhile if there are several faults found on the car that would work out very costly to repair. Finally all cars have a vehicle identification number which can be found on the car in several different places. Find this number and then make a car data check online with a specialist motoring website to learn the full history of the vehicle.

Torque Vectoring for Improved Driving

Author: Parker

No one doubts that all-wheel drive gives you the best possible vehicle control when you're driving in elemental weather. Whether you're dealing with flood, snow, or sand, dropping engine torque as low as it can go and having four tires working together instead of two improves traction no matter what you drive, but new technology soon to be appearing as a feature of the performance car of your choice takes all-wheel drive one step further. It's called "torque vectoring," and it's a system that enables the instantaneous and seamless distribution of torque to one specific wheel at a time.

Most recent-model all-wheel drive vehicles (cars and SUVs) already come with some kind of computer-managed system in order to boost fuel efficiency. The onboard computer will sense a wheel that might be straying from the intended path, or rotating faster than it should, and it will engage the opposite drive axle and apply torque as a corrective measure. If that isn't enough, engine torque will be reduced, or brakes applied until the problem is solved.

More recently, however, this technology has been vastly improved. Car manufacturers have re-designed both front and rear differentials to make it possible for the engine's torque to be vectored, or passed to each corner of the car. Put simply, traditional torque distribution systems in all-wheel drive cars can transfer engine torque only from the front axle to the rear axle and back, but with torque vectoring, it can be distributed from right to left, as well. An article in Popular Mechanics compared the technology to having "…computer-controlled, super-speed limited slip differential in each axle." What this means is that vehicles will not only handle extremely well in bad driving conditions, but will offer impressive handling in normal conditions as well.

So, where can this technology be found? Look to Acura, Mitsubishi, and BMW for the most refined versions. Acura has offered a version of torque vectoring in it's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system for several years. The system monitors vehicle speed, gear position, steering angle, wheel speed, yaw rate and lateral G forces as well as a number of other types of data, and automatically adds torque to the outside rear wheel during cornering, for smoother, more stable turns. The system includes a set of electromagnetic clutches in the rear differential to handle lateral torque transfers, and while the default distribution is 90% to the front / 10% to the rear, it will automatically change to a 50/50 split on hard turns and acceleration.

Mitsubishi, which was long been a pioneer when it comes to torque vectoring specifically and traction control in general offers a system similar to Acura's. Known as "Active Yaw Control" it's been part of the rear axle of their Evolution performance sedan since the late 1990s, while Audi and BMW are taking the technology further: Acura's system only works on the real axle of a vehicle that normally uses front-wheel drive, but these two makers are using technology from British automotive supplier Ricardo and German supplier ZF that can distribute torque to all four tires at once.

Ricardo's system, found in the Audi A4 and A5, uses wet clutches and planetary gearsets, as well as electromechanical controls to offer a response time of 0.1 seconds from accelerator push to delivery of up to 90% of available torque, and passes it both front to back and side to side with lightning-fast accuracy. The German system used by BMW has branded their system "VectorDrive" and it can pass torque to each of the rear wheels individually, for improved cornering and excellent stability in less-than-excellent driving conditions.

While torque vectoring is not yet an industry standard, it is growing in use, and, when married to existing systems like anti-lock braking and rollover prevention, will eventually give every driver the ability to drive safely through wind, snow, rain, and sleet…not to mention sunshine and dry roads.

The Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang was first produced in 1964 at a plant in Dearborn, Michigan and first introduce at the New York World's Fair that same year. As time went on its history can be divided into four periods cleverly called generations one through five.

The first generation lasted until around 1973 and the car was primarily designed around the idea of the Ford Falcon, an earlier car. In 1974 the second generation began and it lasted for about four years until 1978. It was designed around the Ford Pinto and some of its improvements included rack and pinion steering and a new frame that provided for a quieter and smoother ride. The third generation of mustangs lasted from 1979 to 1993, considerably longer the previous two generations. The new features of this generation included more trunk space and a completely redesigned interior that allowed for the seating of up to four people. The convertible was also introduced and became popular at this time.

The fourth generation of mustangs started in 1994 to 2004. At this time the mustang was completely redesigned and the most popular models were equipped with slightly bigger engines. Also the convertible aspect began to disappear from production during this period. The fifth generation of mustangs started in 2005 and continues today. It was redesigned again at this time and its style became more similar to the mustangs of the sixties as opposed to those of the third and fourth generation. Its engine was also bigger than that of previous generations of Ford Mustang. That is pretty much all of the basic information about the ford mustang.

Chrysler's MyGig system

Author: Rob Parker

Audio jacks in cars are becoming fairly standard as new cars roll off the production lines, and DVD systems - either for navigation or back-seat entertainment are becoming available, at least as optional upgradse, as well, but even with all this nifty new technology becoming the norm, plugging in your mp3 player still involves at least one cord - or a wireless tuner if your car pre-dates the addition of the input jacks.

Chrysler, however, has changed all that, with it's new MyGig system. The system was introduced on the 2007 Chrysler Sebring, and soon thereafter it made appearances on the Dodge Nitro and Jeep Wrangler as well. You can expect to see it offered a bit more widely on 2008 model year cars.

But what is MyGig? Put simply, it's a 20 GB hard drive embedded in the dashboard. Part of the disc space is dedicated to the navigational system (it only uses about a gig) but the rest is all yours.

Here, then, are five neat things you can do with MyGig:

Play CDs and DVDs. The latter play only on the optional rear seat display, unless the car is in "park," in which case you can watch on the 6.5 inch LCD screen, which also includes touch screen and voice activation technology. In addition, you can rip your music CD's to the hard drive - no more carting around discs only to have them end up scratched, or lost, or in broken cases.

Upload music files from a flash drive, and store them on the hard drive, via the USB jack. There's no downloading capability, and this only works with flash-based memory keys, but its still a convenient way to have your own music available while you drive.

Upload pictures. Yes, really, pictures. Up to eight images can be stored for use as wallpaper on the console-mounted LCD screen.

Play tunes from your iPod or Zen Vision M or any other mp3 player that uses a standard audio jack. Sadly, there's still a cord required - and you can't use the USB jack with music players, or transfer songs from them to the hard drive, but at least you CAN play your own music over the harmon/kardon speaker system.

Listen to Sirius satellite radio. It's no longer a separate system, but a chip embedded in the in-dash radio.

MyGig also allows for Bluetooth integration with cell phones for hands-free dialing, and while there are no dedicated iPod controls, there is integration for the navigational system and general audio controls.

Chrysler estimates that the on-board hard drive will hold about 1600 songs (mp3 or wma) as well as the Gracenote song information look-up software that comes pre-loaded.

If you have yet to join the mp3 cult, never fear. A standard AM/FM radio is still part of the system.

Investing In Classic Cars

Are you an investor looking for ways to make your money make more money, have you considered investing in classic cars, the classic American and classic British cars are a good choice for you, if you spend some time, and do some research you could very well be pleasantly surprised at what you find, a lot of these cars are now worth ten or more times there original value, you've just got to think, how many investments you know of can do that.

Back in the day a HEMI 1970 CUDA sold for around $3164 and today you could not touch one of these cars for less then $150,000, and that would be an extremely good buy, I recently seen one sell for $1,500,000 at auction, and this is not uncommon for this type of muscle car, not to long ago I was out reading up on pricing of these car, and I ran in to a 1969 ZL1 camaro that had just sold for $880,000 at auction, this car from the factory went for around $7,000 when it was new.

While these were very special cars that the factories didn't build a lot of, if you do some research you'll find that there are still some good investments to be found in the automotive world, if you have some money to start with, you can do very well with these cars; I could go on for about a hundred years with a list of American and British cars to invest in, but I'll just keep things short and to the point.

If you haven't looked in to this; you may think that I'm just up in the night, or you might even want some of what I've been smoking; I have done a lot of research on these old cars, and I'm here to tell you, I am not up in the night, I have spent most of my life studying these cars, and during my studying I learn certain things, and in a lot of cases things even make me go HHHMM what is going on around here, how could this be.

I haven't only seen this type of thing one or maybe two times, I have seen it over and over again, if your an investor and you have an interest in cars, it just might be the right time to start throwing some of your cash at the classic car industry, or at least look in to it a bit more, if you have a favorite car, or favorite manufacture; do some research on the car or manufacture that you love, chances are that there was some special version of you favorite car built, and that would peak your interest HUH?

Classic Car Restoration
I've been in the automotive business for about 20 or 25 years, I have worked in all facets of the industry, from parts to restoration, all different makes and models, I just want to keep people interested in the old cars because it's where my heart is.

How To Protect Yourself Increasing SUV Crime

Author:Gina Sarento

Automobiles have always been a target for thieves as most vehicles are much easier to break into than houses and unattended vehicles parked in structures or side streets allow thieves to commit their crimes virtually undetected. Even if your SUV has an alarm system, don't rely on it to keep your vehicle safe. Here are some tips to follow to deter thieves from choosing your SUV to break into:

First, don't leave valuables in plain view inside the vehicle. While some car thieves intend on stealing the actual car, many are just after the valuable objects left inside--laptops, electronics, purses, etc. These "smash and grab" thefts, where the thief quickly smashes a window, reaches in, grabs the goods, and runs off, can happen in less than 15 seconds. Unlike cars, in which valuables can be locked in a trunk, the nature of SUVs with their windows all around, make them greater targets for this type of theft. Because you can't always carry your valuables with you, we suggest installing a cargo cover in the back which acts as a shield to protect valuables from the sun as well as keeping them out of view from anyone passing by the SUV. Isuzu sells these types of retractable covers for the Ascender 5-Passenger for under $136.00, and they're available for most other SUV models as well.

Second, don't buy an SUV with third-row seats. These optional third-row seats are relatively cheap if bought as factory option (the Chevrolet Tahoe LS's seat is only $460.00), but the retail price for replacing the seat can be upwards of more than $1, 000.00. Because of their high demand and expense, as well as their lack of a traceable serial number, third-row seats have become a hot commodity for car thieves. Officer David Stennick of the Long Beach, California police department said, "[Third-row seat theft] has become a real problem over the last several months. Thieves aren't just stealing third-row seats stored in private garages. They're breaking into parked SUVs and grabbing third-row seats in the middle of the day." SUVs like the Toyota Highlander and Chevy Tahoe are primary targets. Until the automotive industry reacts to the surge in theft and begins to manufacture seats that are serialized in multiple places, we suggest avoiding those types of SUVs. It certainly decreases your chances of being a victim.

Third, don't keep key identity documents in your car. Be careful to remove mail, auto club information, credit card information, insurance and registration information from your SUV each time you get out. Keep your registration and insurance card in your wallet - after all, it doesn't need to be there if you aren't anyway. With identity theft continuing to be a growing problem, you can limit the access a thief has to information about you and your life by being prepared just in case your SUV is broken into. While we know it's a hassle to replace a broken window or stolen goods from your SUV, problems associated with identity theft can last a lifetime.

Fourth, pay attention to where you park. Always choose lots with security cameras, security guards, or high traffic volume over lots that are dark or nearly vacant. Thieves don't want to take chances they don't have to take, so if you're parked in a well-lit, busy place and have nothing of value that can be instantly seen inside the vehicle, chances are, they'll move on to a different SUV.

Give Your Car A Health Check

Author: Jonathon Hardcastle

Checking your car periodically is one of the best ways to maintain safety, and spot any problems as they arise. By running through a standard test of various vital mechanical elements of your car, you can ensure the best chance of survival in an accident, and highlight any problems as soon as they become apparent which can also save on the mechanic's bill.

It's always good practice as a driver to ensure your car is in top roadworthy condition. By carrying out these simple checks frequently, you should minimize the chance of mechanical failure whilst you're driving. The first place you start should be by conducting a break test. Break tests should be conducted frequently throughout a drive, especially when you have driver through puddles or driven in overly wet road conditions. When driving, ensure you are safely ahead of any cars behind, before applying relatively firm pressure to the breaks. This should allow you to get a feel for the responsiveness of the break pads. If you feel breaking is getting slightly sluggish, there may be substantial erosion of the break pads, or some other issue which could need attention. At this point, it may be wise to consider professional assistance.

The next basic check you should make is the condition of your tires. Analyze the length of the tread on the tires, and indeed the pressure, increasing where necessary. Additionally, if you feel your tires are out of alignment, which may happen from time to time, a mechanic should be able to sort this problem without too much hassle.

A simple test you can conduct on your car without too many problems is the oil test. Maintaining oil levels in you engine is essential to ensuring the smooth running of the car's machinery, and so it is essential you check oil levels regularly and remedy any deficiencies. A lack of oil can cause serious problems for any car, so it's best to be on the safe side and check regularly to avoid the situation arising.

You don't have to be a mechanic to make sure your car is in top condition. All you need is an awareness of how your car functions mechanically, and a concern for the well-being of the vital mechanical components of the vehicle, to ensure ongoing safety. By keeping on top of the situation, you can ensure your car is safe to drive for the benefit of other road users and yourself.

Cars Kit for Car Lovers

There are many kinds of widows whose husbands are still very much alive. There are golf widows, soccer widows and increasingly these days, Playstation widows. If your house is littered with car magazines, your weekends are taken up with car shows and a purring engine instead of a pretty lady turns your partner's head, you're probably a car enthusiast widow. This can be bad news if you're not interested in torque, pistons, 8-cylinder engines and fuel injection. It can be good news if you're looking for the perfect Christmas or birthday gift, as a kit-car would fulfill every childhood fantasy and provide hours of pure joy.

Kits can be ordered straight from the manufacturers via their websites. They can also be ordered online from a kit-car supplier. Choosing one can be sweet hell for a car lover. You can build anything from Big wheel off road vehicles to vintage cars. Two-seater sports cars are a very popular choice. Consider when choosing them what engine you would like to install, whether you want two-wheel or four-wheel drive and the kind of suspension you want to use. The beauty of them is that you're not limited to any set specifications. You can use the base and add just about any features that you want.

Before your kit arrives, it's important that you get a donor car. In some cases you may be able to salvage all that you need from one car, in other instances more than one donor car may be needed. Finding a donor car can be as simple as knocking on someone's door and asking them if you can buy the scrapped car in their yard, or looking in your local paper. Ideally all of your donor car's mechanical components should be in good working order. It's more likely that most of the car will be in pretty poor shape, but you should be able to refurbish most of it, and exchange the rest.

Once you've stripped your donor car, and cleaned and checked all the parts that you're going to use, it's advisable to read the manual to make sure that you understand everything. Kit-car manufacturing companies have help lines so that if you don't understand something or are having trouble, you can phone them and they will help you out. Another good idea is to formulate a building plan. You can follow the manual to the letter, or you can work to your own program. It all depends on how much knowledge, equipment and time you possess.

One of the highlights of building your kit-car is putting your engine in place. This should be done with a proper hoist and not manhandled in by you and some of your best friends. An engine is deceptively heavy and once it's dropped, it can't be salvaged. It's best to spend a little extra money on renting a hoist, than a lot of money buying and refurbishing a new engine.

When yours is up and running and has passed the road safety test, there are endless hours of pride and joy before you as you drive around the country in a car that you built. There is also the prospect of building another car. You could also venture out of your comfort zone and try a whole new mode of transportation, such as a kit-helicopter or an airplane.

The Vintage Mercury Lincoln Cougar

Author: Terry Z. Voster

Many have thought of the Mercury Cougar a simply nothing more than a luxo-bloated version of a Ford Thunderbird. It may well surprise many Ford, Mercury as well as Ford Mustang and Mercury Cougar enthusiasts that 35 years ago that the Cougar "Pony" Car was kicking butt on the Trans-Am circuit.

In its origins, the Cougar was an idea that Lincoln-Mercury had been tossing around, for some time, with the idea of a smaller sporty car. As early as February 1963 this idea of a smaller as well as sporty Lincoln-Mercury vehicle, to be introduced to the North American market, came to emerge within the corporate head office, marketing and design staff.

The success of the Ford Mustang was all that was needed to put the wheels in motion. Indeed the famous marketing reference in regards to the product market popularity and sales of the Ford Mustang 'Pony" Car was a sign in a donut shop that "Or donuts sell as fast as Mustangs". Nothing drives the automobile industry more than the potential and promise of fast car sales figures. It is noteworthy that even the name of the vehicle product "Cougar" can be said to be family line generated. After the name Cougar is not only six letters but is another member of a line of fast creatures. Both the names of Mustang and Cougar evoke an image of sleekness and fast speed as well as agility.

Built on a 111 inch wheelbase, the Cougar was three inches and half inches shorter than its cousin - the Thunderbird. Underneath the elegant sheetmetal of the Cougar was a Mustang, so to speak. In actuality the Cougar shared with its cousins - the sporty Mustang, and the more dour family vehicle - the Ford Falcon (which was also known in the Canadian market as the Ford Frontenac product. The Ford Mustang had the greatest fortune of being born from the Ford Falcon product line. Mustang enthusiasts owe a great debt of gratitude to a so called compact "Family" car. The Ford Falcon allowed both the Mustang car project as well as the Cougar car product a quick to develop, cheap to produce as well as a proven and durable base platform. Even the dash of the early Mustangs was a direct copy of the Falcons.

Underneath all of the glitter of its elegant sheet metal the Cougar car was all Mustang, using the exact same Falcon front suspension and a solid rear axle with four-leaf springs. A base 289 cubic inch V-8 made 200 bhp (gross), but the real action came in the guise of a 390 cubic inch V-8 that made 320 bhp. A GT option included a performance handling package and power disc brakes that replaced more standard front brake drums. Finally special GT wheels rounded out the package.

It has been said that Lincoln Mercury's chief designer had envisioned the Cougar as an elegant European sports car, along the lines of the Jaguar Mark 2. How was it that the Cougar went racing?

In 1967 Lincoln Mercury turned to Bud Moore to be the point man for a shot at the SCCA Trans-Am Championship. Team Cougar made up of drivers, Dan Gurney, Parnelli Jones, Formula 1 driver Peter Revson and NASCAR driver Dave Pearson came in second in Ford Mustang's team. In 1968 then under the aegis of Moore, driver DeWayne "Tiny" Lund went on to capture the NASCAR Grand Touring Championship.

So where and how did the Cougar go wrong. It seemed that Lincoln-Mercury was never quite sure on how to market the Cougar. This lack of market focus, as well as not knowing and perceiving the needs and desires of the potential Cougar customer market proved to be the Cougar's undoing. By the 1969 product introduction the Cougar was a little longer and a little wider. From then on it was only a short decent into landau roofs as well as the opera window type styling and options of the day. Once started this downward trend and spiral of the Cougar was inevitable. The halcyon years of the early Cougar - specifically the early Cougar model years of 1967 - 70 remain a time when the Cougar's roar boomed out of dual exhausts and the sign of a car that had some bite to it.

How to Get Tax Breaks for Your Car Donation

A great way to support your favorite charity is through donating a used vehicle. The charity will most definitely thank you, and the government will, too. Your generosity will likely be recognized with a special tax deduction, but certain requirements must be met before you can receive this type of tax break.

Unfortunately, the policies regarding vehicle donations are not as clear-cut as those for other types of charitable contributions. The level of tax relief you can receive depends not only on the total claimed value of your donation, but also on how the charity will use the vehicle. That's why there may be a delay, and you may not know your full tax deduction amount at the time that you make the donation.

Changes were made since 2005 to the statutes for tax deductions applied to vehicles donated to charitable trusts. If the declared value of the donated vehicle exceeds $500, and the vehicle is placed for sale by the charitable trust, taxpayers are limited to claiming the gross profits from the transaction.

If this type of charitable donation appeals to you, you'll need to keep the following points in mind:

Claim Fair Market Value

When filing your tax return, be sure to deduct the fair market value of the vehicle. This amount will take into consideration the condition of the donated vehicle. Claiming the full value of the car is not acceptable.

Itemized Deductions List

You must itemize your deductions in order to take full advantage of tax relief available to you. If you are claiming standard education, you will not benefit from this clause.

Charity Eligibility

In order for you to receive the benefit, the charitable trust must qualify with the tax department. Check a copy of Publication 78, available online and at public libraries, for a list of eligible charities.

Estimating Vehicle's Fair Market Value

There are various factors to consider when determining the value of your car. Refer to a recent used car guide for precise instructions to evaluate your vehicle's value. You may need to make adjustments depending on accessories, mileage and other indicators of its general condition.

Filing Your Charitable Contribution Deduction

Be sure to keep good records when claiming a tax deduction for your vehicle donation. Store all receipts and forms relating to the car donation, and a copy of its fair market value, in a secure place. And keep it for several years.

If you are a taxpayer in the USA and you've donated a vehicle to charity, contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to find out if your previous contribution is tax deductible. If you think that someone sought your contribution for deceitful purposes, speak with an appropriate state charity watchdog at the state Attorney General's office.

Donating a spare or unneeded vehicle is a very generous way to benefit your favorite registered charity. The charitable organization will thank you, and eventually so will the tax officer.

Holiday Season Calls For Teen Drivers To Be Safe

Author: Anthony Fontanelle

The holiday season is just around the corner and road safety conscious groups are calling out to teen drivers to be more careful this season. Takata, the world's largest manufacturer of safety belts, created a list of tips to teen drivers for safe and responsible driving. The list includes other safety tips other than always using the seat belt.

According to the company, it is very important that teen drivers should avoid any distraction in any form to keep themselves safe. And when it comes to minimizing distractions, the mobile phone comes to mind immediately. Teen drivers are advised to leave their mobile phones at home or turn it off while behind the wheel.

Apart from mobile phones, eating while driving can also lead to distraction. Combined, mobile phones and eating while in the car causes distractions which results to about 4,000 traffic accidents on a daily basis. That fact is according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration or the NHTSA.

Another thing that Takata is pointing out is that more teen drivers are driving with numerous passengers. If a teen is driving a vehicle loaded with his or her friends, there is a big chance that he or she can be distracted. Therefore, Takata advises teen drivers to drive with as few passengers as possible. The NHTSA reported that a vehicle loaded with three or more passengers can be involved in an accident four times than a single driver's risk.

And since driving in winter is a potential problem for teen drivers, Takata advises them to take precautionary measures. One of these tips is to "thoroughly clean windows before driving, allow extra time to reach your destination, turn on your headlights anytime there is fog, rain, sleet, or snow". By following these simple tips, teen drivers can protect themselves from the risk of meeting an accident while driving in winter.

Other tips provided by Takata reads: "Double/triple the space between you and the car in front of you during any type of precipitation"; "Check to make sure brakes and windshield wipers are working properly before driving"; "Carry an emergency kit: Items to include are an ice scraper, windshield washer fluid, warm blanket, jumper cables, lock de-icer, and a flashlight"; and "Never let your gas tank go below half-full."

These tips offered by Takata will go a long way in keeping teen drivers safe. Reliable seat belts as tough as Acura brake dust shields will also help a lot.

Bio Diesel Comparison Chart

Author: Simon Rohde

Bio diesel is cost effective when compared to diesel. Diesel is extracted from crude oil whereas bio diesel can be made with the help of any vegetable oil, used oil etc. Diesel is available in all fuel stations. But bio diesel does not take the form fully so it is available in selected stations only. In Germany and other European countries, bio diesel is available in more fuel stations.

Diesel is suitable to most of the vehicles. Bio diesel is also suitable to all diesel vehicles. Sometimes some old vehicles need small modifications. Diesel vehicles produce much air pollutions. They are harmful and they lead to global warming. But bio diesel as they are produced from vegetable oil they never produce air pollution.

Diesel is produced from oils imported from other countries. Bio diesel on the other hand is manufactured from vegetable oil and agricultural wastes available in your own country. In fact you can manufacture bio diesel from any vegetable oil which is abundant in our country. US use soy oil, Malaysia uses Palm oil and India is using neem oil, castor oil or rice bran oil. Mostly these oils are cheap and so bio diesel costs less than ordinary diesel. As you can prepare this domestically you need not pay the taxes.

What About The Environment?

Bio diesel manufacturing and utility is increasing day by day since it reduces the dependency on imported oil. And another important thing is that bio diesel never cause any harmful pollution. They are environment friendly which is not a feature of ordinary diesel.

Bio diesel is the best alternative for diesel. It is compatible with all diesel vehicles with little or no modifications. You can convert the vegetable oil to bio diesel by adding methanol and lye. You need to invest some amount in bio diesel equipments like heaters, cleaning equipment, filtration equipment etc.

Is it safe?

Diesel is safe fuel but it is not biodegradable. So if any drop spills out then it will pollute water and soil. But bio diesel is bio degradable. So it is safer than ordinary diesel. You can handle, store and deliver bio diesel in the same equipments used for diesel.

Bio diesel processing equipments are available in online and you can get them easily. Bio diesel consumption is increasing nowadays and Europe is leading in bio diesel consumption. Other alternative fuels to diesel are not that much effective as bio diesel. Bio diesel reduces the import duties that are spent on diesel. It also minimizes particulate matters. SO it will help to reduce global warming.

Bio diesel is a combustible liquid yet it is safe. It is the only fuel that meets the requirements of clean air act. It will give the same power of diesel while you run the vehicle. It is 7 % less than diesel but it is not a problem on road use. In fact you may not notice this small difference. You should remember that winter may cause bio diesel to freeze and you may have starting troubles in winter season. Adding little petroleum will solve your problem. Irrespective of some disadvantages bio diesel is the cheapest fuel and it can control the spread of lung diseases and cancer which are caused by ordinary diesel.

The 2008 Audi RS6 Avant

Are you looking for a family car that has speed as well as great looks? If so, then the 2008 Audi RS6 Avant is a car that you should be considering. Sure, when most people think of wagons, they think of huge cars that are not much in the way of performance, but this new Audi Avant will definitely change any idea that you may have of a station wagon. Basically this RS6 is basically the same as the Audi S6 version; however, it does come along with a few extras that the S6 doesn't have. Audi has definitely done a great job of combining family wagon with a sports car drive. So, if you have the need for speed but you want room for the entire family, this is a car you may want to give a second look.

If you take a close look under the hood of the 2008 Audi RS6 Avant, you'll find that there is a Lamborghini derived V-10 engine that has direct injection. In the RS6 you'll also find two small turbochargers as well, which jumps the power from the 435 horse power of the Audi S65 to 550 horsepower instead. So, this is the most power sedan that Audi has ever built, and to top that, it is now one of the most powerful four door vehicles ever made at all. Of course when it comes to station wagons, the RS6 definitely take the title for the most powerful one. When it comes to powerful sedans, this car is supposed to be smoother than its' competition when it comes to the use of the power and the ride of the car.

The 2008 Audi RS6 Avant also boasts a Tiptronic transmission as well as the special Audi Quattro all wheel drive as well. While the S6 can do 0-60 in a 5.1 second period of time, which isn't too shabby, the new RS6 is expected to cut this time down to about 4 seconds to hit 60 miles per hour. This car also will come without a speed limiter as well, so it will do well beyond the 155 mph carp that the S6's have. Take a close look at the suspension and you'll find that this suspension is quite stiff. The new RS6 Avant also boasts well ventilated brakes as well and carbon ceramic rotors are probably coming as part of the package as well.

Not only is this a fast and high performance wagon, but this is also a great looking car as well. It has a beautiful design that is sleek and stylish. While this car does not have the huge, billowing appearance that some of the older Audi's tend to have, it does feature some 4-style fender lips as well as some special window trip and silver mirror caps. Also there is a small lip spoiler on the car as well and if you look closely you'll see the dual exhaust pipes coming out from the back.

On the inside of the 2008 Audi RS6 Avant you'll find all the luxury that you have come to expect from the Audi name. The interior is definitely a step up above the S6 and you can begin to see where those "extras" come into play with the RS6. The seats are sporty and boast nappa leather. Carbon fiber trim is used in the vehicle and the shift paddles are aluminum. The dash top is attractive and made of leather and you'll notice that the steering wheel is a flat bottom one.

Of course with all the excellent features of it comes a pretty hefty price tag, falling just a bit short of $100,000. In spite of the high price tag, this is a great car to consider if you are looking for a luxury family car that is just packed full of power. It comfortably seats five people, so you'll be sure to get the whole family in comfortably. Most of all, no matter where you are going, you'll be sure to get there quickly with the fastest wagon out there on the market today. So, for those looking for a family car that is packed full of great options and power, the 2008 Audi RS6 Avant is definitely a car to consider.

Where to find Cheap Seized Cars

If you are working with a fairly small budget, and if you need a car very soon, then you might be interested in cheap seized cars. Do not let the name fool you: a seized car is not necessarily a bad car. In fact, the U.S. government seizes cars every year and puts them up for auction! These cars, or even SUV's or trucks, come from the U.S. government's bureaus and even your local police, and they are auctioned off for public needs.

You can get cheap seized cars starting as low as a hundred dollars for bidding. Because most government vehicles have to be kept in mint condition, such cheap seized cars will not go cheap on their look and running ability. In fact, some cars that are put up for auction will often be surplus vehicles, or automobiles previously owned by government bureaus, but are not more than three years old! This means that you can have a nearly brand new car for only a few dollars.

You can find out more about them online. There are searchable databases through which you can compare prices and car makes in your immediate location. Because these government car auctions occur frequently, you need to be updated as frequently as well, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for government auctions in your area.

Moreover, be aware of the market value of the car that you want and need. If you have common sense and good bargaining power on hand, you can participate in auctions for them better. Soon, you can get a good car for a good price, and you can have fewer worries as well.
